Wow! This is probably the least number of posts for a OS upgrade ever! Does anyone know what's different about this release compared to the German Vodafone release previously?

I had a couple of self-reset and self-poweroff. I'm going back to 4.2.1.103.

I have not noticed anything different. The upgrade went fine although the restore froze up half way through. Not sure this had anything to do with the os, just your typical Microsoft issue.

My BB just crashed for the first time EVER today

got the dreaded "JVM 102 ERROR", I was on the road all day, so I was going through massive withdrawal.

not sure if it has anything to do with the new software

I am having some issues with this code on by 8800, sometimes my display doesn't light up when a call comes in or another even happens like (meeting reminder, etc)

Anyone else experiencing this issue on this handheld code?

4.2.2 adds full screen mode. You'll likely have to wait for 4.2.2 or higher for full screen video.

Angry Display Keeps Lighting Up Killing Battery

Before this latest update my display was perfectly fine and my battery life was stellar. Now for some reason my display continues to light up for no apparent reason all day long. I even turned automatic backlighting off. Now my battery is drained every day when before it would only need to be charged every few days or so with heavy talking. The worst part is I don't even talk on the phone that long and it needs to be recharged daily. I get nowhere close to the stated talk and standby times since the Dobson OS and it was supposed to make battery life better.

Who else has noticed this issue and is there a fix without a revert?

My house is in a dead spot for my carrier. Certain corners of the house get enough signal to operate, but generally I've noticed my battery drains a bit while I"m home and the phone constantly looks for signal. On my old Treo, I had an app that would automatically turn off my radio if I didin't have signal for more than 2 minutes, then it would turn it back on every 5 minutes to look for signal again.

Last night, I had the same experience on my 'Berry - at home, looked down and my radio was off. I hadn't touched the phone to turn it off. Half an hour later, when I checked again, my radio was back on and I had a new voicemail. I'm willing to deal with an auto shutoff of my radio in favor of improved battery life. I actually hope this is a feature in this and all future OS versions, and not just a bug.

If it turns itself off when it can't get a signal, how does it know when to turn itself back on?

I believe on the Palm platform an internal alarm was set for the radio to turn back on. I don't know enough about the internals of RIM's OS, but I imagine a similar feature exists.

Like I said, I don't know whether this is a bug with this particular version, or an intended operation. I don't see any new options available to modify such a setting, so I have my doubts about intended functionality. So far I haven't seen my radio turn off automatically again...

Who knows?

This has been a feature of every BB I have ever owned. I have had 6. To save battery life when the tower is unavailable or unreachable for whatever reason, it has always shut the radio off to save battery power and then turns back on when it finds a signal again. I think it's a nice touch to an awesome PDA experience and with this type of thinking it's no wonder BBs are known to have the absolute best battery life and signal reception.

Good to know.

I've just never had that happen with any other OS version I had loaded, until this one.

How does it "find a signal again" if the radio is off???

I have no idea. It just does it. Sometimes I force it to look by turning it back on though, but it doesn't happen often.
