Default Is My Storm Gone Forever?

Please Login to Remove!

Hey all,

About two months ago my storm went swimming with me on accident. I pulled the battery and let it dry for about two months, literally. I had just been using my pearl in the downtime and didnt really think about it. Anyway, I decided to give it a go the other night. When I turn the Storm on, the red light comes on and the screen comes on, sort of. I can see that the screen is backlit, but it is still black across it. If I let it sit, I can see the backliting on, but nothing comes onto the screen. I took the storm apart and cleaned everything as well as I could with some rubbing alcohol, but still nothing. Just curious if anyone has any further advice or tricks I can try. Thanks in advance!

PS - I did also try plugging in into my PC, which does not recognize the storm when plugged in, but the phone does charge when plugged into the wall.

It sounds like you've done what you can do. Two months is certainly enough time

You could try replacing the LCD screen.

I have considered this, but I honestly dont know if its worth the money on such a long shot. Do you know what kind of success rates people have seen when doing this?

No, I don't know what success rate people experience.

If I were you, I would email the folks at Horizon Wireless, and ask the same question. I think they will shoot straight with you without just trying to sell you a part. There's a link below here in my signature.

I contacted Horizon Wireless and they want $145 for a replacement LCD screen. Now, thats not all that expensive in comparison to a replacement phone. But, my concern is there may other issues lurking even after I replace the screen. I wish there were some way to test the screen and see if that would actually fix my issues.

If I were in the business (and I'm not) There would be something like a $75 "assessment" fee just open up the device and test the screen... it's a lot of precise work involved.

You sound like you have knowledge on how to test the screen. If you are willing to share that info, I am willing to listen. I have some electrical experience although its all related to automotive. But, I do have an ohmeter, test light, and other basic electrical tools if those can be used for testing. Thanks in advance!

Have you tried pushing the call button twice to see if it will call the last number dialed? Or tried calling into it? If it won't make or recieve calls then the screen is the least of your worries.

I have not tried any of the above... mainly because I took the phone off my account and re-activated my pearl right after the phone got wet. Its not a big deal though. I actually have the phone on ebay right now for spare parts. Believe it or not, the broken storms are selling for about $100-$125 in non-operational condition. I will just roll that back into another new phone...and be more careful next time. :( Thanks for all the help everyone!
