Default I would like to compile a list of advantages of running a BES over active synch

Please Login to Remove!

These may not all be true but
End to end encryption
Ablilty to wipe, lock, send service books
Ability to know at once whether a device has sent, received, is in coverage, has a SIM, etc
Ability to push software to device
Ability to use our Internet connection for Browsing(i would think that is a huge savings to the carriers)
Ability to hit our INtranet and Shared drives without a VPN
Certain reporting features on a global basis
No need to buy any other 3rd party software to do the above

I know that if you say "you can see all devices at once" you could get hit with "single point of failure".

Any others i am not thinking of?

Thanks.

Less data usage than EAS devices
OTA device software upgrades
Push applications/lock down software configs
on enterprise BES there are over 500 IT policies
longer battery life than most EAS devices
easier to trouble shoot IMO
HA for free with BES 5 (no single point of failure)

In addition to what's been mentioned already...

BlackBerry Collaboration Services for Enterprise IM.
Wireless Backup of device data and personalization settings.
Wireless Sync of To-Do (Tasks) and Memos.
MVS for integration into corporate VoIP network.

One advantage we have found is that with a widely distributed base of users (some are 300-400 miles apart) it gives a centralized way of administering devices. Imagine having to physically go to the desktop of hundreds of users...it wouldn't be pretty ....and you can avoid as much as possible the desktop environment and all the baggage that is associated with that.

Thanks to all- it is a question that is posed to me and i need to have "talking points". I would think that the carriers are happy with the encyrption and compression as it makes their networks more efficient but who knows- maybe they are giving away data instead of rewarding efficiencey as we provide by sending BES traffic through our T-3. I have I Phone and Android working now so stakes are higher.

Try investigating Good for your iPhone and Android devices. Works similar to BES and provides a separately encrypted container for corporate data only on the device.

Is there anything out there that allows proxy connections to the intranet like BES does? I ask because we have been thinking about enabling iPhone but we use the intranet applications quite a bit through our Blackberries.
