That doesn't include the retaining clip that goes between the trackball assembly and the chrome outer ring. It's a shame that retaining clip costs $40! However, that link is a good deal for those with dark/dirty trackballs.

How essential is that little ring? I been using mine without that little ring for a few days now and my trackball seems to work just fine except for my initial problem of my trackball no longer scrolling up.

I just received a trackball from BlackBerry 8100/8300/8800 OEM trackball- SonyEricsson, Dopod/O2, Samsung, Sony, BenQ-Siemens, Mobiado, Alcatel, Tools, HT -- $12 plus s/h, about $18 total. I asked before ordering, and was told the metal ring was not necessary for the 8100. It arrived in about a week, and works perfectly. Just snaps in, and the whole assembly is snug. The silver plastic ring holds everything together tight.

You actually don't even have to take it off well just the cover the white light I just pop out the whole trackball and it comes off.
