Angry Sync the Bold With Mac. very frustrated!

Please Login to Remove!

Hi Bold/Mac users;

I've tried sync my bold with Pocket mac and missing sync. both are bad software. Anyone have a better option other software other solution to deal with this. Basically I need to sync my address book and iCal all the time since that's what I use to work, neither software seems to work and tech support of both are lost, I think they don't have a solution well established yet. Any help? somebody actually talked to me about lotus notes? somebody knows about that? Please help.

I normally run XP using a Parallels VM on my Mac. I keep my blackberry stuff on the XP image, including Lotus Notes.

You can also use bootcamp for your windows image.

I have been successful with PocketMac but I am now more inclined to get MSv2 since it offers wireless sync--which is a killer!

Default Missing sync (V2) works

I'm using new Missing sync (V2) and I've been able to sync my address book and iCal just fine. I suggest you try the demo and you should have no more issues.

I found a review and demo link at
vnunet

Hope this does the trick for you

I agree! Too bad it isn't free, but it works like a charm. I battled PocketMac for a week - tried every fix out there and still encountered too many errors to mention. Paid the $40 for Missing Sync and had it up and running flawlessly in short order. Syncing with iCal and other apps just fine. I really like the Bluetooth sync option too.

After the debacle of pre-2.0 Missing Sync, I switched to an OTA solution.

I currently send all of my Address Book and iCal data to my Google Apps account with Spanning Sync, and then use Google Sync on my Bold to get it over to my device. It's nice not having to plug it into my computer anymore.

I'll second mjbanks, I have been using Spanning Sync and Google Sync with two 8330's and two Macbooks (using the same Google account) and it works flawlessly. OTA is the way to go and it will sync in all three directions. A change made anywhere is updated in all spots. There is a trial for spanning sync so you might give it a shot. I started with blank calendar and contacts on the phone and google, I thought that might help eliminate the possibility of duplicates. I read in another post on pocketmac alternatives that there was a free way to do it without spanning sync, but I am not familiar with how to do it.

I would highly recommend going with Google sync. It works very well and Google keeps all your information backed up in the event you destroy your phone and computer simultaneously. My only suggestion in doing this, to prevent mass duplicates and complication, would be to go through your existing BB contacts and make sure they are all in Apple mail. Then wipe the phone of contacts. Next sync Apple contacts to Google and verify that it went smoothly. Once you have the first two in agreement then Sync contacts to a 'blank' phone. My experience has shown me that Google will create a dupe on the phone even if the contact is 1% different. It makes a mess if you are not careful.

Advantage two is that all your calender events created on the BB are synced to Google, which you can then email to your stone age friends (non-google/non-bb). I have found this to be useful when planning events that require eInvites.

I too use Google Sync to sync all calendar, email, contact data. but obviously google sync won't sync media.... has anyone tried the Beta of Blackberry's Media Sync? i tried it once so far and it worked flawlessly... it allows you to sync your playlists created in itunes.. however, the draw back is, if you want to go back and use pocketsync for anything else, then you have to uninstal mediasync. not an issue for me since i sync all data through google.

its just a beta, but at least we know they are working on it!

For all of you who are advising the Google route, I have a question.

Don't you have to have an @gmail.com email account?

What if your email is @me.com?

Create a Gmail account with a forwarder to your @me.com? If you want an invite, I don't know whether registrations are open, you may PM me.

Thank you Ritsuke. I have gmail account I use as a backup to my @me.com acct. But that's all I use it for because of the gmail.com suffix. I don't respond to any email from that account. So it's frustrating going in and out of it to just use calendar, and contacts.

Outlook and Entourage stink as far as syncing and not being web-based but at least email, calendar and contacts are all right there.

You can stay logged in at your Google account without using your mail but still be able to use your calendar. Google keeps your account all over their pages so if you don't use your mail you can still use Google Calendar, Documents, ... and just let your mail autoforward to your @me.com via the Control Panel.
