Default Log files

Please Login to Remove!

I'm researching the various flavors of BES log files.

I'd like to generate reports about user activity, BES performance, etc. It seems like the MAGT log file and the DISP log files are the best place to start.

I noticed that the resource kit tools use both of these files at different points. Which of the logs would be best for reporting type of data, and if I ended up using both of them, what would I use one for vs. the other.

In many cases, it looks like I'm seeing similar transactions appearing in both files, that I can link using Tags.

Just ammend it. Or do you mean permanantly? If so it's hard coded so you will need to be nice to DavidAdams and see if he will create an option to change it (it would be nice for remote use but I am too polite to ask ).

Ok, Ok, i get the hint,

Suppose a "browse" button is what people are really looking for?

As for a permanent change i suppose i could get it to read from an ini file which you edit manually yourself, or even better is saved from the last run time.

Leave it with me.

Woo hoo Yeah I think ini file or last use would be best, as I am thinking of using it from my PC and remoting to the BES for the logilfes (and Raiden probably was too!). So location will be different from the default but the same each time, if you see what I mean.

You are a good man :->.

OK, here you go.

Unzip both files into a directory of your choice and edit the ini file as needed. Don't worry about the trailing backslash on the path if it's not there the VB puts it, if not it doesn't.

All credit must go to Grimlin in the first place, the VBS to do the searching is his. All i did was wrap it up in a VB front end for my own use.

Fair play, nice one Grimlin! (I couldn't remember where that code came from originally!).
