I wasn't sure what part of the forum to put this in and I thought this would be the best place any way here goes nothing. I have a pearl at the current point in time and I love it I have had my eye on the curve for a minute now and was think about getting one from eBay and then just swapping my sim card between the two phones. But what I am wondering is would I be happy with the curve? I got my pearl because I like small phones and I love sure type so i feel that even though it doesn't have a full keyboard the suretype makes up for it. But I like the thought of the full keyboard of the curve and bigger screen and what not; but what I was wondering is if anyone thinks that it would be worth my while to have a curve to switch between my pearl and the curve or should I save my money and not worry about it and stick with the pearl?

I wouldn't characterize moving from a pearl to a curve as an upgrade in general. The move from one to the other would only be an upgrade if there are features on the Curve that you would use quite a bit, that are not present on the Pearl.

Device choice is a preference based on features. Some would see moving from an 8310 to an 8320 as an upgrade since they don't use GPS on their current device, and would use UMA heavily.

I would suggest reviewing the features on both models and come up with a pro/con list, and to go a step further, visit a carrier store, and get a hands on with the device you may switch to.

If you are looking to keep both phones active, I would suggest sticking with the 8100 only, if you find yourself undecided.

I think the most important feature is the keyboard. While both are QWERTY, the Curve has a 1:1 button to letter ratio, while the Pearl has the standard number keys with letters built into them. I personally like having a bigger keyboard.

That, as well as a few minor application differences is what makes the Pearl and Curve stand apart. I would classify the move as more of a lateral move, not an upgrade. It just depends on what you like.

Not entirely true. The Curve has a full one letter per key QWERTY keyboard. The Pearl uses "suretype" which has two letter per keys in a QWERTY configuration. It guesses what you are trying to type based on context. You either love it or hate it, but its not the same in size or operation.

Well he said that the Curve had 1:1 keys while the Pearl was suretype. You basically restated his post in a different way.

I would have to say the whole reason i was looking the curve was for some features that the pearl doesn't have, i used to have a 7100 before i got my pearl and i loved teleanav and how it was all built in to the phone and what not and with the curve having this and a few other not to make a huge list but it seems like the senses is that its more of a parallel move well i am going to have to take the advice and go out and try one out! Thanks the help

I agree that it's more of a lateral move. If you want a full keyboard go with the Curve. I like the traditional phone size of the Pearl. It's powerful yet small. I have an 8800 but seem to always go back to the Pearl. I may give the Curve a shot since it's size is in-between.

The Pearl is a very capable Blackberry, but the full QWERTY keyboard of the Curve is a killer feature IMHO. I made the transition and love for the keyboard and slightly bigger screen. The tradeoff in size is well worth it, maybe even a plus.

I moved from an 8100 to 8320 and I consider it a major upgrade. Although we don't have UMA where I live, the WiFi capability is awesome and I use it a lot. Full keyboard is great although sometimes I wish I had SureType but I'm missing it less each day that passes.
