That, as well as a few minor application differences is what makes the Pearl and Curve stand apart. I would classify the move as more of a lateral move, not an upgrade. It just depends on what you like.

Not entirely true. The Curve has a full one letter per key QWERTY keyboard. The Pearl uses "suretype" which has two letter per keys in a QWERTY configuration. It guesses what you are trying to type based on context. You either love it or hate it, but its not the same in size or operation.
