Default 8900 super low volume

Please Login to Remove!

I know the 8900 doesn't have as many speakers as the Bold, perhaps I am spoiled by the loudness of the Bod but I find the 8900's volume for alerts and ringtone to be quite low! I am running OS vsn. 4.6.1.76, does anyone know if other OS versions correct this? I know the 8900 from Rogers Wireless ships with an OS version higher than 4.6.2.76 so I am hoping that newer OS versions will increase the volume somewhat. When I am in a noisy environment I rarely ever hear my BlackBerry alerts/ringtone.

Hi
We got our 8900 from Rogers and the OS is 4.6.1.94 and I have the same problem too. I find the volume on the earphone speaker to be lower than the one on the bold. I guess we have to get use to it or hope RIM comes out with an update to fix the problem.

Two different issues: volume for alerts and volume of earpiece. Does anyone else have an earpiece volume that's lower that the 8300?

I find the earpiece volume to be okay, it's the alert volume that I find extremely low. I'm using the same custom alerts I've used on the 8100, 8310 and the 9000 but on the 8900 I find them to be very low volume wise.

I just got my 8900 today and I have noticed how low the earpiece volume and ringtones are. In fact, this was the reason that I got rid of my Bold and went back to the 8310. It appears with every new OS that the volume is getting lower and lower. I find it difficult to hear the other person on my 8900. The only other thing that I have noticed is the leather pouch that it comes with...the phone sticks out of it by about 1 inch...I am assuming this is so the Rogers branding is visible, but I can see the phone getting damaged easily this way, as you have to pull hard to get it out. Other than these two items I find the phone to be very small and the keyboard is great.

Hopefully an OS update corrects the volume issue. I just tried the leather pouch that comes with the 8900 and noticed exactly what you posted in regards to it sticking out of the pouch. I'll just get a holster instead as I don't like how it sticks out from the pouch.

Is the earpiece volume better, worse, or the same as the 8310? Thx.

I find the earpiece volume louder on my 8310, that said the 8900's earpiece volume isn't that bad.

Maybe that's one of the ways they are getting better battery life with each new OS?

Hi guys, I'm also having the same sad problem.
I'm a Tmo user, I just got the 8900 and while testing its apps I found
the ringer isn't loud enough for me to keep the phone - I wonder if there are any download-able programs or ways to alter the volume within the phone?

I know it's speakers are capable of MUCH louder output as I discovered when using YouTube on my phone. This is why I think there may be a setting within the phone to correct this problem.

I can't be late for work, I can't miss a call while in the next room or shower and I can't keep this sexy 8900 from Tmo if I can't fix the low volume issue.

HELP - ANYONE - PLEASE...

Warren in Washington, DC

Well, this isn't really sound advice that I can help you follow through with, the 4.6.1.133 OS is extremely loud! They need to find a medium between the two...

Anyway, if you can get your hands on the .133 OS you should be quite happy with the volume of alerts and ringers.

yep the .133 is louder in alerts and ringtone volume.. some ringtones are too loud where u can hear the distortion.. but i don;t mind cause my new case covers the speaker and i need it to be loud..

the vibrate is another story ; >

I'm currently using the .133 OS and I love how loud the device is now!
