Default Software config = "Policy settings have changed"?

Please Login to Remove!

Hello all,

We are in the throes of DST patching like the rest of you. Our environment is BES 4.1 SP2 on Exchange, just under 500 users. Using Cingular 8700/7130/7100/72xx blend, all flavors of 4.x OS.

Last week we set up our SW configuration using Patch Mgr 2.2 and tested it to some of our support staff. then this past Monday we set all IT Policies to allow 3rd party downloads, and Tuesday a.m. we started applying the SW Configuration in groups of 100 as recommended by RIM.

Some users (primarily using the DST-supporting 4.1.0.377 code for the 8700c) have reported getting the "Policy settings have changed" prompt not only right after we changed the IT Policies on Monday, but also several times since then. Some of the users started getting multiple messages before the SW config was applied to them, some after...

My questions at this point are:

1. Does the application of a Software configuration from the BES cause the "Policy settings have changed" prompt to appear even though it's not a policy per se?

2. Is there any reason users might get multiple "Policy settings have changed" messages? We have seen this before (prior to starting DST patch testing) and it seems to occur whether we've actually changed a policy or not.

RIM was particularly unhelpful on this point, at all! (1:45 hold time, 1:15 actual discussion with support rep - RIM, not Texas!).

Thanks for any help or insight you can provide, and good luck to all in surviving till Sunday (or till you get your resume in shape, whichever comes first...)!

cheers /td

Hi. Not sure how helpful this maybe, but...There is an option in the BES to supress the "Policy settings have changed" message - are you sure you haven't accidentally set this to False for these users.

Also, if it is set to false, then the users will get that message everytime their policy is applied, so if your BES is set to refresh the policies on devices every 12 hours (like ours is) then the users will see the message every 12 hours. That could be the reason they are seeing the message whether or not you've changed anything
