Default 9530 coming to Canada on Telus in November

Please Login to Remove!

Our Telus rep just informed us that in November a new blackberry model would be coming out that he's sure a lot of our users will want. We're doing a semi-major hardware/contract refresh this month so we were asking him about getting us setup with a bunch of new devices, and he told us that we might want to wait. We asked him what model the phone was, and he told us to look up the Verizon Blackberry Storm for more information.

I was surprised to hear this. Last I heard Telus and Bell were in a bidding war for it in Canada, I guess Telus won. As far as I can tell this hasnt' been announced anywhere yet, I can't find any other refrences to the Storm on Telus other than some rumours from back in August that Telus was the likely partner for RIM.

I'm personally excited, as I'll at the very least get a unit to test out in November before we decide whether we want our users to be able to have the Storm.

Telus has this device listed in their computer systems. Not sure if Bell might also launch it.

I've had a couple PM's asking me for a source on this one, so I'm going to clarify that right now I can't provide that source, but that everyone who reads this can be assured that it's reliable. That's the best I can do.

If Telus prices it right, I might be interested. But my 8330 isn't a year old, I feel for it.
The big deciding factor is typing on a touch screen. I love my hardware keys. This is why I have no interest in the iphone, but I'm thinking this might be the same feeling.

Yes, the storm is both cdma and gsm from what I read last night on specs. Kinda like the 8830 world edition.

So, the Storm will be a TELUS exclusive? Not launching on BELL? At least, not right away?

From what I read, Bell might get it too but Telus has made the first move. I think it will be available next month. Not sure how much.

interesting. similar to the OP, we're facing a hardware refresh on our blackberry fleet as the 8703e is being discontinued. our telus rep informed us that the bold would be coming by the end of the month and the storm wouldn't be will sprint '09. seeing that the storm is on the front page of telusmobility.com, i'd have to say that the storm will be coming before the bold.

There's oblviously a lot of talk about Telus and Bell getting it and its probably true since both their websites mention it.

I'm with Rogers and would rather stick with them so I'm interested in whether they're getting it or not. Read some posts that they are but unlike the other carriers, nothing is mentioned on their website.

Question: is it possible for these 3 carriers to carry the same model? Would Telus or Bell ask RIM to keep it away from Rogers out of spite for the iPhone exclusivity deal they got from Apple?

Yes, look at the Curve and Pearl. Same phone essentually, just different antenna's on the inside. Same there here - there will just be differences in the cellular frequencies in the antenna's (antennie?) depending on the carrier.

It is likely that RIM started with CDMA SKUs first due to the fact that people jumped over to the iPhone will not likely invest in another touch screen so soon. RIM will be getting the best bang for buck by releasing with CDMA providers first, targetting the market of customers and did not buy out their current contracts to switch to a GSM provider just for the iPhone.

I haven't heard anything. I'm still waiting for an official OS update from them.
