Thought I would give this a bump and see if anyone else had tried recently...

I was able to download and install, but I couldn't move the map! Perhaps my 7290 would work better if it had GPS.

No joy with http://wap.mgmaps.com either. Same "Download Failed" message. I'm using a T-Mobile 7290 without BES.

If you have install issues, just go here WITH YOUR BLACKBERRY HTML BROWSER:

http://wap.mgmaps.com/mgmaps.jar

For some reason the wap site doesn't always work (invalid jar file error).

You cannot move the maps around by design it seems. That would take a lot of bandwidth that our blackberrys do not have. You have to use the search feature to find stuff.

I've found the program to be really cool, but very very slow. It takes forever to search and download the maps!

The download seems to work if you use the WAP Browser, not the Internet Browser in the BB.

I finally got it installed by pointing the WAP browser to the jar file.

yah the program is really really slow, and you can't to the best of my knowledge you can't search for an address.

If you type an address (including zip code) onto the "Where" line (leaving the "What" line empty) when you do a search, it should find the address. You can then save the result to the program's list of locations and even use it as the startup location. I've found that some addresses aren't in the Google database, so that may have been the problem.

I was able to download the program to my 7290 by 1) changing the Content Mode in the browser to "WML only" and 2) pointing the browser to http://wap.mgmaps.com/mgmaps.jar. Don't forget to put the browser's Content Mode back to "WML & HTML."

What good use has anyone found for this? I found my house on the map but I'm trying to figure out why I should leave this on my BB.

I could see using it when I travel. I could put in the hotel's address and get a sense of where I am in a city and what might be within walking distance.

It would be much more useful if you could bring up directions and mileage from one location to another. I'm not sure you can even have two locations visible at the same time.

Why is it useful? Same reason you keep a map in the glove compartment of your car. If you're driving and need to get somewhere but aren't sure the way, you can check it out on a map!

I used to use Pocket Streets on my pocketPCs all the time. I found it really useful in the event needed directions anywhere. I wish this program was faster, but its a good start for now.

When you press the number keys to move the map, are you also pressing the Alt key so the keys are numbers rather than letters?

It may sound obvious, but that's what I did the first time I ran the program. You look at the numbers printed on the keys and forget you have to use the Alt key.
