Default Shutting down old Exchange server causes BB not to be able to email

Please Login to Remove!

We have been moving users from Exchange 2000 to 2k3. Finally moved my last user yesterday. I shut off the Exchange services on the 2000 box and I can no longer send emails from my Blackberry?? The 2000 box was the server that BES Admin originally attached to, but I moved the mailbox and modified the MAPI profile. The other factors are that the 2000 box is a DNS and DC server and by shutting it down will put my location at only 1 server with these functions.

If you have suggestions, I am open ears. We need to remove Exchange and reformat to use the hardware for another box, but I can't if my BBs will not be able to email.

Thanks,

Whammer

After you moved the BES admin account, did you run handheld cleanup? That will force the BES to find that it has moved. I don't remember the exact switch. Type handheldcleanup /? to find the switches and what each does. The tool is a utility that comes with BES.

What version of BES areyou running btw. I remember this same issue with BES 2.1 but BES is much more forgiving now with this kind of stuff.

We are running 4.0.5.5 and to answer your question, No I didn't run that util. I will look on the server now for it.

Actually, what I found is that the order for the DNS server was the old 2000 box first and that is what was creating the problem.

Actually it didn't work. It seems to be a DNS issue, I removed the old 2000 box from the DNS server list and I am not in bizness.
