Default Xobni Screwed me!

Please Login to Remove!

I downloaded Xobni and it worked fine for half the day. I got a notice to update, so I did. Yeah right!

It deleted every single email on my Berry, both sent and inbox!

I've sent a note to their support.

My question, how do I get those emails back? I'm on BES

Your BES admin can do a restore of your device and repopulate your inbox with the last 2 weeks of messages. Older stuff may be gone for good from your BlackBerry.

AZsteelman,

Thank you for taking the time to work with us today. We are terribly sorry that you ran into this OS bug, and we are working with RIM to find a solution.

As rambo47 suggests, the BES admin can either repopulate; BES 4.1 SP2 introduced the ability to force pre-population on activation ... put in these reg keys ...

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server\Agents]
"ForceMsgPrepopOnActivation"=dword:00000001
"ForceMsgPrepopDays"=dword:00000005
"ForceMsgPrepopMessages"=dword:000000c8

Apparently it wont force pre-population on ALL, only the last 5 days up to 200 messages. (you can modify up to 14 days / 750 messages).

Or, the admin can simply remove the BES account and add back. That should bring back the default amount of email content (usually 30 days).

In the meantime, I'm glad that you were able to access the critical mails in your inbox using remote search. For others running into a similar situation, try these steps:

Menu key -> Search by -> Advanced.

At the top select "Search Messages: Remotely"

Select menu > Add all

This will provide a way to copy the emails back in the inbox.

Thanks again,
Eirik

Eirik,
thanks for your quick response to my problem.

For everyone else, Xobni called me within an hour of my post and problem report to them. They were very helpful in offering advice as to what to do and helped me walk thru some steps. We were only able to access some of my data while on the road, but it was enough to get by. Fortunately I ALWAYS back up my device before I travel. When I got home, I simply restored it to it's status 5 days earlier and then downloaded my inbox again and I was back up to date.

Our BES guy was out of pocket so we couldn't get to everything thru that avenue. Nice to know we had some options.

Now, just to let you know, when I uninstalled Xobni for the last time, it once again wiped out all my emails. No reason for this has been determined - I won't try it again until this issue is resolved.

If anyone has any ideas as to the reason, feel free to post here and hopefully help them figure it out.

thanks -

Randy

One issue to be aware of: if the BB OS has a panic "out of memory" situation, it will delete all of your email in an attempt to free up flash space. I've had this happen to me on older devices (like 8310, 8320, etc), which have limited flash.

Out of memory was the first thing they asked me about, but that was definitely not the case. It had plenty as their log showed -

Hello,

The easiest way to explain to a layman is a "memory surge" -- when an application starts up or quits, it generally temporarily uses more memory. This may be huge enough trigger an OS panic even if it recovers quickly (After the damage is done). As a BlackBerry developer, I noticed some BlackBerry operating systems have issues with application memory surges. Even if the memory surge depletes/exhausts all the memory for just a few seconds, it may be enough to cause an OS reaction. I don't know if this is related or a different issue...
