Default BB Desktop Software Is Slower Than Molasses In Winter

Please Login to Remove!

Every time I back up my device, I must wait for a long time for Blackberry Desktop Software to open, and after it opens, I must wait longer when I connect my device before I can finally back up my device. Here are my times:

Double-clicking Blackberry Desktop Software icon until it opens: 3 minutes 30 seconds.

Connecting my device to my computer until the Back Up button finally appears: 4 minutes.

The actual backup itself: 20 seconds.

What are your times, guys?

My computer dates back to 2008, but I don't need to upgrade to a new one just to open Desktop Software while all other applications open much faster. How long does it take you to do those I described above?

Something is wrong. My 2006 computer:
-BB DM opens in 31 seconds
-Backup option appears 15 seconds after connecting my PlayBook (no more BB handheld to test)

What version DM are you running? I am using 6.1.0.36

Download an application called CCleaner and run it. You sound like you either have a very old computer or multi megabytes of temp files and cookies. Mine opens in about 22 seconds. You might also consider doing a defrag.

Strange, dude. I am running 6.1.0.35. Surely .36 can't be that much faster.

I did it. CCleaner helped a little. When I doubleclick the Desktop Software icon it loads now in one minute, but connecting my device to the computer takes three and a half minutes until I can backup. Any other ideas on how I can make it work faster?

Approximately 45 seconds. On a 4-year old computer.

I did, however, notice that using an SSD greatly speeds up BlackBerry Desktop (on a Macbook Air with Parallels) speeds it up massively to about 15 seconds. Running in a virtual machine! The Macbook Air uses a puny 1.5 gigahertz CPU -- slower than my 4-year old computer. And in a virtual machine! Virtual machines are amost like emulators that run slower than the real thing.

Conclusion:
I find BlackBerry Desktop to be excessively disk-bound.

NOTE: Disabling Outlook integration speeds things up too. Microsoft provides a slight amount of fault here. But not entirely, as it's not needed unless you synchronize. (Disable automatic synchronization). (Hopefully RIM was smart enough to load Outlook integration 'on demand' only when Synchronize occurs... If not, then tsk, tsk!)
