Ok Guys,

I currently have an 8300 that I am satisfied with but I am seriously considering a Torch what are your honest opinions? Drawbacks, likes, dislikes?

Please do not double post as once is enough. Your second thread has been deleted.

My suggestion is to go to an ATT store and take one for a test drive to see if you like it. You are the only one who can make that decision.

Do you like touch screen devices? If so then you might like the 9800.

I have had the Torch since launch day with no issues. I am running OS .246. I have owned three other berries, 8310, 9000, and 9700.

The advantages are obvious versus your current device.

1) OS 6 is a huge improvement.
2) New webkit browser.
3) Touchscreen.
4) Trackpad instead of trackball.
5) Physical AND virtual keyboards.
6) Better battery life.
7) Larger screen.
8) 512MB for apps.
9) 4 GB onboard storage.
10) 5 MP camera.
11) Social media.
12) Universal search.

The numerous combinations of touchscreen, trackpad and keyboard make for a more productive and enjoyable experience. The menus are more organized and intuitive allowing for more customization and control. The only opinion that matters is your own. Testing the phone yourself is critical before you walk out with the Torch.

AH and one last item from coming from the 9000 a larger screen! yeah.....
I just bought the Red one with the AGF case and love the set up...still learning but the OS6 performance is as follows:
The WiFi performs better here at home then my 9000 did at work on 3G! The 9000 never did well here at home with 3 bars and WiFi......with the Torch I down loaded all my apps in minutes.... it was really amazing and of course yes I'm easily entertained anyway....

The previous post makes excellent points go to the store and just play with it and get a feel for it. It's about an ounce heavier but to me ( personal choice) it just feels solid.

Have a great Thanksgiving yah'll

Why are you considering a Torch? That will be a big part of whether it's for you or not. I've had several bb's (8700, 8800, 8330, 9700) and now I'm on the Torch. I've always loved my blackberry as they are the best at synching my work life (Outlook sync via BES) and my personal life (BIS email accounts, pics, music, etc.) - I only want one device - I don't want a separate camera or music player.

The draw for me? Simple - I always wanted a bigger screen AND I wanted a browser that worked as good as the on one my wife's iPhone.

With the Torch - I've got it all - I've had it for about 2 weeks now and I couldn't be happier.

I'll also add that the latest Desktop Manager (DM) software does a fantastic job of allowing you to transfer from an older device to a new one - be sure to download the latest version and use the Transfer device option. The music sync with the new DM is also very nice.

One more note - since you are on an 83xx (Curve) you will undoubtedly find the keyboard different - at first, you will hate it - but stick with it and you'll find yourself able to type just as fast as you did on the Curve.

Good luck.

Thinking of switching to the Torch, (I have an old 8800) but a question about WiFi. If I am at home using WiFi, surfing, etc. will I still be able to get email through GSM from the BES?

Yes - WiFi does not disable your mobile network.

Bear in mind that the Torch's battery is of a lower capacity of the BOLD although it has a bigger screen!

Furthermore, the slide out physical keyboard is too flat as it has to go into the phone so typing on it is bad, I have had it for a week and returned it and got a 9780 as the physical keyboard sucks, so thus the virtual keyboard, not practical for daily chat!

just my 2 cents

OMG! Repressed memories returning... being violated by the craptastic 8330 forced on me by a cheap-a** former employer... <slow? Yes please!> <Creaky plastic? Oh yeah!> <Lousy keyboard? Thank you, sir! May I have another?!> <Web browser by Ford Pinto? Vroom vroom!> <Reception that made iPhones look reliable? Can you hear me NOW???> <Pixel density by Lego? Ka-chunk! (the sound of another pixel being rendered on an 83xx)>

kygirl (I hope that means you're from Kentucky...) - Anything would be an improvement. The Torch will seem like gadget mana from heaven. Of course, so would a pair of soup cans and a string...

I like the touch screen. Will never use anything but a touchscreen in the future. This is probably my 4th or 5th BB and my favorite
