Nope. That is the way the BB works. There is only one radio in the device, so you can have either data or voice, not both at the same time. I do believe that you can send SMS while on the phone though, but I have not tried it.

it is more a limitation of edge. hdspa (3g) allows you to use data and voice at the same time. but, we dont have any 3g bb's yet.

Does the email come in after you disconnect from the call or do you miss that one ?

Actually the 8707's UMTS is 3g and allows data and calls simultaneously.

Yes it does. It is held on relay until your call ends, just as it is if the device is off.

But the OP has an 8700g so you can't have both a call and email at the same time.

I know, I was correcting disinvent's claim that there are no BBs capable of this functionality.

To answer menthol's question, the e mails that are waiting to be delivered come in after the call.

All of Verizon's and Sprint's current Blackberry devices are 3G, and have been for a long time, since the 7250.
EVDO is 3G.

Are you sure about that? Every model....even the 8703e? It's curious that I can't get email while talking on the phone....

Wirelessly posted (Opera/8.01 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/3.1.7196/1710; en; U; ssr))

I can't remember how my 8830 was, but I know my 8703e waits until after I disconnect the call to push emails that arrived while I was on the call.

Yes, the 8703e is 3G, just like the 7250, 7130e, and 8830.
However, you still can't have simultaneous voice and data on 3G EVDO.
Having 3G doesn't automatically mean that you have that functionality.
