What is the purpose of being able to text Pin-to-Pin?

Also it's a way of sending message to other BB users like a text, but without the 160 character limit.

Super secure IM capability with BBM. Quick and if you wanna have fun, like in the pinexchanges that go on in forums such as this...You dont have to give out your phone # which is a huge plus...

Take your pick:

• Secure
• Delivery/read confirmations regardless of carrier
• No worrying about 160 character limit
• Works when email is down (depending on the nature of the outage)
• Free if you have a BB unlimited data plan. Doesn't matter where your recipient is located -- you're not charged extra for international PIN. Though if you're traveling internationally you're subject to roaming charges unless you have an international BB data plan.
• Messages don't disappear into the ether or randomly get delayed like they do with SMS.

The real question is why aren't you PIN'ing and why aren't more of your friends using BB's so you can PIN with them?

is it a crime that i've been a blackberry owner for about 8 months now and have yet to send/receive a PIN? i don't know a lot of people that have BlackBerrys, but i feel like i'm missing out on quite a bit....

great troubleshooting tool as well, its the basic of all basics, if you cant send pin2pin, you will not be able to text or send emails either

Not exactly.
SMS and PIN use entirely different transports, and are mutually exclusive.

Yes, you need a BlackBerry data plan.

you can also use it to transfer attachments such as images, pdfs and such. its a must have must use item!

I like PINning for an entirely different reason, myself. I only PIN with my husband, and since PINs show up red in my inbox, my messages with him stand out from all my other messages.
