Curve or Pearl?
Please Login to Remove!
I've been looking into both the Blackberry Curve and the Pearl. The general consensus from online reviews and such seem to be that the curve is overall superior. Here's the catch...I don't need either BB for any kind of business. I'm just going to be using it as a casual phone, probably also making use of the calender. My question is, for the Curve's bigger size, do it's advantages make it worth getting as a casual phone over the Pearl? Replies are appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome to the forums.
If it's just for occasional use as a calendar and mostly for just phone then the Pearl is what I recommend. Just be aware of the keyboard differences. Both devices will do all you need.

I've had both. If it's just for casual phone and occasional calendar, I like the Pearl. If you need/want the bigger screen for web surfing, etc. then go with that.
It comes down to a personal issue. Nobody is going to be able to answer this for you.

JC is correct. Many users love the pearl, and equal number do not. The only way you will know is to try it out and see what you like best.

Wow, that was seriously quick. Thanks for the replies. I'm leaning toward the Pearl, but I'll probably take advantage of AT&T's 30 day trial thing and try out both of them.

something to consider!!!
you get one buyers remorse exchange with ATT.
If you get Pearl first try it then decide to go and try curve and hate the curve you are stuck with it. Vice versa as well.
I highly encourage to you to spend time at a store with each device.......better yet if you have a friend with either device see if you can borrow for a few days.
I think from what you are using the device for I would go with the Pearl. I actually have one that I am using as phone only and for the calender works great.

as a clarification, you do eat the device, but you can still cancel your contract within 30 days, even after your first change of device. you just get charged full retail.

i would strongly recomend the blackberry curve as i have had both and i now currently own a curve. the keyboard is great and makes for much faster typing. i know the pearl and curve are both just phones but the pearl gets boring quickly.

Just to be clear, all BB's have Qwerty keyboards.
Some BB's have "reduced keyboards" or SureType keyboards. But they're all Qwerty.
When I had my Pearl, I could type faster on it than I can on my Curve.

I thought qwerty was full keyboard on the BlackBerry™ anything short of a full keyboard is suretype or something other than qwerty but I guess I was wrong.

I've had both the Pearl and Curve. I'd NEVER go back to a Pearl. I'd have to disagree with faster typing on the Pearl. While physically one could type faster on the Pearl because you have to press less keys with SureType, the problem I found is that SureType frequently miss predicts the word I want. I ended up quite annoyed with constantly having to go back and correct SureType on the word I wanted. I also find that the Curve keys have a much better feel and are easier to type on.

Qwerty is the keyboard layout. As opposed to DVORAK or Alphabetic order.

So is there a clear answer like a pros and cons between 8120 and 8320?

Compare the devices side-by-side at Blackberry.com. It's not a clear-cut matter of pros and cons -- it's your personal preference.
If I had to choose, I'd get the 8320 as I can't stand SureType. YMMV. Comparing any 2 BB models is like this. Pick the features and keyboard that you prefer.
