Default from 8100 to 8120 review

Please Login to Remove!

Well, I just got my 8120 in the mail today and I must say that I am very glad I upgraded from my 8100. Here are just a few things I have noticed :

- speaker is MUCH better than my 8100... ringtones are loud and clear

- wifi is very nice and I love it

- bluetooth has more options as far as connectiity

- while the resolution is the same for some reason it appears much clearer than my 8100 did

- spellcheck is nice

- suretype is better

- new fonts make it clearer

- media is setup much better

- few other things I cant think of now.

So... anyone thinking of taking the plunge I recommend it. The only problem I have found so far is my AIM does not work for some reason and says it has not been enabled on my device. I have the service books listed so I'm not sure why that is not working at the moment. If anyone knows please let me know. TMO network.

Now I know both you guys have t-mobile, but I just wanted an idea on the whole "cell phone exchange" thing. I want to trade in my 8100c for the newer 8120, but I have a 2 year contract with AT&T and my BB so I was wondering if I could make the transition, but not having to pay for the phone (or atleast not any price with 3 digits).
Thanks to anyone who reply back and congrats on your new phone!

I have had a 8100 since day one. Wife is contemplating the 8120, but I want a 8130 w/GPS.

Do we think TMO will ever carry this model?

I have an 8100 on TMo and wanted the 8120. I called them and asked for the best upgrade price they could offer. Customer Care could only offer something like 249 because I had upgraded to the 8100 from an 8700 only 11 months ago. So, I complained and told them I was thinking about going to AT&T. I was immediately moved to another level of customer care, offered the phone for $99 with free shipping and a 2 year extension on my contract from the date of the order (not from what would have been the end of the 2 year extension I agreed to when I went from the 8700 to the 8100). For me, all in all a good deal since I think I can sell the 8100 for about $99, making the whole thing a wash. Not sure this would work on AT&T but, unless you ask, you'll never know.

T-Mobile won't carry this model because it is a CDMA version of the Pearl. You would need to get an unlocked 8110, which is the GSM version of the Pearl 2 with GPS.

This are some great observations. I also think the keypad is much better than the original Pearl. My orginal Pearl 8100 had somewhat of a "wiggly" keypad, and the keys seemed to be raised higher than what the Pearl 8120 has. I like the flatter and more solid feel to the keypad on the Pearl 8120.

add to the list :

- better mute / standby button (which I constantly use to lock my keypad)
