Default 7290 Made in Hungary

A friend just gave me what appears to be a new 7290 without provider branding made in Hungary. What is the deal with this unit? Seems to work fine with my Cingular SIM...all my units in the past were made in Canada.

When i got my BB 7290, I was surprised as hell to see that it was made in Canada. I thought everything was now made in China.

Welcome to Globalization!!

I thought all BB hardware was made in Canada, but maybe they are now "out-sourcing" too. I guess it's hard to resist the low labor rates in some countries.

Hey everybody--
i was surprised too to see my new 7290 was apparently made in Hungary. I was laughing with the Cingular guy about it. I demanded a unit made in Canada by Canadians, and he said that he had never heard of an Hungarian unit. Anyway, it was all in good fun. The 7290 works perfectly so far and is an improvement over the 7280.

If you go through RIM's press releases you will notice they made an outsourcing manufacturing deal with a company called Eloteq in Hungary. A lot of european carriers are getting devices out of the factory there.

The majority of BlackBerry's are still made in RIM's factory in Canada though.
