Quickpull - I NEVER have to do battery pulls anymore. I have this program set to perform a "battery pull" every night at 10pm, and if I am getting errors or something, I no longer have to manually pull the battery.

I've never heard of this one, but it sounds totally perfect-- I didn't know you could have a battery pull without actually physically removing the thing!! Awesome.

Is it available at that App World store?

I also have Quickpull on my 8900, great app for sure. As far as where to download it, I got it from Crackberry for free seen here: QuickPull - Personal Productivity BlackBerry Software - Crackberry Store
I just sent the download code to my email and away you go. In addition to Quickpull I also have the following:
Google Maps
Nobex Radio Companion
Blackberry App World
BBWeather
Poynt
Extralight
BOLT (found that it works better than Opera Mini which I was running before)

My dad swears by an app entitled Pocket Express that he has on his 8220. Supposedly its a "know" everything one stop for information and it runs quickly as well. According to him, he uses Pocket Express in place of Viigo. Not sure if that's true for sure, I haven't taken a close look at Pocket Express yet.
One more interesting thing I was told today was this site: http://aerize.com/ which has an app (10 bucks) that allows you to put apps onto your memory card so you don't have to eat up device memory. I have yet to try it, nor has my dad because I'm looking on some feedback as to how it works first.

Default MLB Mobile Premium

Just signed up for MLB Mobile Premium full season subscription for $14.99. Its designed to work on the 8900, Bold, and Storm.

Its not an app really, because you access it through your BB Browser, but the service gives you access to live pitch by pitch game play, video highlights as they happen, and audio commentary. It's similar to ESPN and Yahoo pitch by pitch sites that only run in your computer browser. The graphics are pretty nice. You can try it for one month for $2.99, if you're not sure you want to invest a whole $15.

I've tried a number of free baseball apps and they've always been very disappointing. I would recommend this to any baseball fan.

I had quickpull on my 8900 and had to quickly pull off my BB because it was cause a truck load of issues. You think I got a hold of an outdated version? I liked it a lot while it worked.

The link to Crackberry that I supplied in my prior post is the version of QuickPull that I have. I haven't had any problems with it as far as causing "truck loads" of issues. I suppose if you're up to it, redownload the one I linked to and see how it works for you.

Is battery-pulling every night a useful thing to do? I can understand that possibly with my old 8200 but the 8900 has loads of memory...

austinholloman, I hope that link and download works out well for you and gives you minimal problems. It's seems like a bare-bones app and I'm surprised it gave you any problems at all in the first place.

bluejacket, It's not really a necessary thing to do, pulling the battery every night, however, it never hurts. It will free up memory and Quickpull has identical effects to a soft resest. I try to reset on somewhat of a daily basis, however, if I miss a day then it's no big deal. Moral of the story, it is something that will not hurt the device, only benefit it.

is quickpull any better than doing the alt-shift-del?

my faves are
facebook
twitterberry
google apps - maps and sync mostly
viigo - but not really sure I want to keep it
slacker radio

with the 8900 I've gotten a new appreciation for the BBmaps. but still like google better. ;)
poynt seems redundant with google maps - can get addresses, phone numbers, etc.
I looked at where too, a nice app but again seemed redundant.

austin, no problem dude, glad i could help you out.

ejmccartin, I'm unfamiliar with the "alt-shift-del" feature. In that case, the only thing I could vouch for is that the new version of QuickPull seems to be better and more flexible than the last. It appears to be a BETA version but it has worked flawlessly for me so far and it takes up only minimal space.

ssj2 - the alt + right shift + del (in that order all at once) will start a reset of the 8900 (and other qwerty models.) much like ctrl-alt-del on a pc. very handy sometimes. I imagine a soft reset is a soft reset. but a battery pull is still the most extreme/complete reset.

No. No need to battery pull enless something is messed up on the 8900 (like unread messages/calls won't clear off).
I used to be able to get pitch by pitch baseball games on ESPN on my 8100, set it to refresh. I did it with NCAA basketball games too on the 8900. what's the MLB pay-for-view do that ESPN won't do.

Hmm...I thought so. I had the Pearl before the 8900 so I'm unaware of the Curve "tricks" that are out there for full QWERTY Blackberries. However, just like you said, I suppose a soft reset is a soft reset no matter how you slice it.

well, I'm definitely going to try the QuickPull app. I'll download it this week.

I was thinking-- is there an application that can pull up on old school phone keypad (or a BB feature) so that you can dial numbers that have words in them? For example-- 777-FILM or 1-866-DISNEY, etc? I have the hardest time with the Blackberry keypad when I have to do that-- I usually refer to the nearest landline phone!!

RIM has already thought of this and the solution is so simple that most people overlook it. When dialing 777-FILM, just punch in the letters FILM on your keypad and BB will convert them to the right numbers for you! Nice huh.

Doesn't work for some touchtone dialling services, though... like for instance when I need to call my mobile provider (they need me to type my password first)!

(edit: p.s. that 777-film trick didn't work on my keypad)
