Default Enterprise Activation over (only) WiFi

Please Login to Remove!

I gave my wife my Bold 9000 series phone, since I now have a Torch.
She has a prepaid plan with no dataplans attached.

I want to activate Enterprise EMail to our Exchange 2010 (BES5) cluster, so whenever she has WiFi (at home, at my inlaws, etc), she can receive E-Mail.

I read a few things on 'MUST HAVE DATAPLAN'.
However, the Enterprise option *IS* available (unlike the BIS option) on her limited plan SIM card. Also, Blackberry Desktop Manager 6 has the option to link her Outlook profile as an Enterprise E-Mail.

So I am guessing, Blackberry does offer BES over WiFi without additional data/blackberry monthly subscription plans?

Am I wrong?

The BES option is present only because its the default.
It will not activate without a BES plan attached.

Not exactly.

No, you're not wrong...but the usage will be somewhat limited.
When the handheld is attached to a WiFi network on the same LAN as BES, it will activate and operate quite normally. This is because the handheld can communicate directly with the BlackBerry Router component on BES via wireless bypass on your LAN.

Once the handheld leaves that LAN, it will cease to function.

(BES must also be configured to allow for WiFi activations. It's not configured by default.)

My home connection is in the same "LAN" (using VPN!) as the BES.
Will that also work?

BES server: 10.10.10.0/24
Home: 10.10.11.0/24

Probably, but the BlackBerry will only work when you're home.
Once you leave your house, the BlackBerry will basically do nothing. I don't see how this will be of any use to you.
