I'm guessing you did. Must be all of those meals of tofu bangers and mash, Yorkshire pudding and spotted dick. (Yes, tofu bangers. I remembered your eating habits!)

BES 5.0. I really wish I could be going to it this year because of that alone. Maybe if I can cut the budget down a bit I have a chance. But coming from Western Canada makes for almost $1000 just to fly =/

I was the only one without shades...

Our budget still is not finalized, so I am still up in the air. Cross your fingers for me.

Got an e-mail from regsvc:
Dear WES Alumni,

Registration for WES 2009 will be opening up next week, and wexxx8217;re looking forward to another great event! Youxxx8217;ll be getting an email from us as soon as registration opens. Donxxx8217;t forget that as a WES alumnus youxxx8217;ll receive an additional $100 off the registration fee. Just register using the same email address that you used last year to have this discount automatically applied.

In the meantime we wanted to let you know that we have a limited number of rooms available at the Orlando World Center Marriott at a special Government rate of $109/night + tax. As a WES alumnus we wanted to give you a chance to book your hotel ahead of the crowd.

Herexxx8217;s the link to reserve your room at this special rate:
Orlando Resort Hotel: World Center Marriott Florida Golf & Spa Resort in Orlando, Florida
Note: Wexxx8217;re expecting spaces at the Marriott to fill up quickly so be sure to reserve your room as soon as possible.

If you have any questions about hotels or registration please email us at [email address].

Wexxx8217;re looking forward to reconnecting with you in Orlando!

Sincerely,
The WES Team
This came to my Inbox Friday (1/23) in the afternoon. I didn't check until late Saturday night (yeah I have no social life.) I immediately called the Marriott to change my reservation. Seems as though I could only get the government rate ($109) for the first 3 nights and the regular conference rate ($217) for the next 3. I also asked how many government rate & conference rate rooms were still available. As of 1/24/09 @ 11:30pmEST, there were 8 rooms left at those rates.
Yes you read that correctly, 8.

If you are planning on going to WES and want the host hotel at the government or conference rate, MAKE YOUR RESERVATIONS now.

The other part to note is the first sentence of the e-mail, Registration for WES 2009 will be opening up next week. From my previous experience and observations, registration will open, Tuesday 1/27/09. But that's just my opinion and not an actual fact.

Hope to see some familiar faces at WES 2009 (The BlackBerry Pack; you know who you are) and meet new folks too! (HINT: Jadey)

Another bad omen for me then. I heard at the weekend that Snr Mgmt is up for sending me again but there just is no budget right now. I think it may become available nearer the time but I doubt there will be any Marriott rooms left by then, let alone cheaper one. And after seeing people at 2007 having to mess around to get from their hotel to the Marriott all the time, I am not sure I will want to travel all that way to be staying in Tampa Bay .

Watch this space...

Yeah that's what I did in 2007 but this time I might have a colleague from the US joining me so it might complicate things. Will have to sit and wait for a few weeks I guess.....but then I suppose I could book two rooms now, nothing to lose I guess.

Darth,

I booked online for 5 nights (May 3 - May8) using the Govt. rate without any problem. you might want to try and reserve online instead of over the phone.

Weird coz I remember in 2007 I couldn't get the conf rate online for more than 3 days but when I rang them they gave me it for the 5 days. I guess they have sorted themselves out now.
