Default Reboots & Hour Glasses

Please Login to Remove!

I upgraded from 4.2.1.107 to .55 and have had performance issues all day. Several times I would be in an email and it would reboot. This would cause it to lose track of which applications I told it to hide. blah.

A few times I get into a situation where the hour glass pops up every 2-3 seconds until I reboot. I am not running any 3rd party apps, so it wasn't something 'foreign' running in the background.

I also have an issue where the Music Player is stuck on 'Scanning...' -- but that may be because I have a DVD on my SD card.

I'm not sure how much is new since I missed a bunch of updates between .107 and .55, but I do like the updates. I like how emails look (even w/o the HTML, I like the caller-id photo in the header and the overall layout).

Check out this thread on how to address the "stuck on scan" and "reboot" issue.

http://www.blackberryforums.com/medi...t-reboots.html

I too upgraded from 4.2.1.107 to this OS as I was waiting for a stable version where the camera worked. No major troubles here. Had the hour glass now and then for the first day but it will smooth out on it's own.

Default Icons dithered

Some of my 3rd party app icons look like crap in this OS, like they are out of focus and dithered. Anyone else have this issue? Looks like they may have made new requirements for application icons.

Well, I took the plunge and tried this new firmware....and I have to say it works phenomenally. I have not seen any issues so far

I was running 4.2.1.109 (whatever the last 4.2 on here was)...and then I used JL_CMDR and wipe cleaned the pearl.

After that I uninstalled 4.2.1.109 from my desktop and installed this current firmware...and did some cleaning up (deleting vendor.xml, editing blackberry alx, and removing some packages - as stated on the famous optimization thread).

And using the latest desktop manager 4.6 (I believe that is current version), I installed it on my firmware, and once it booted, and after playing with it for a bit, the OS became very fast, and I love the html email - and I love the BBAlpha Fonts - i was like OMG, the text looks so clean and reading text is awesome. This upgrade really makes the pearl act like a brand new phone, - its a massive upgrade from 4.2.

I have installed Google Gtalk, Gmail, Google Sync and Google Updater, few games, and Opera Mini.

Heck, I love the BBrowser's trackball style mouse cursor.

So far everything works as promised, if I detect any issues - I will promptly post it on here..

For now this build is awesome

Hey wcsbb, I believe your service provider need to be running bis 2.5 or later, and once you send your service books to to your phone, check the options in messages - it will say enable html -

Hope that helps

Just a note.
This version does not like to load on the phone with Vista 64 bit. I have had heaps of issues getting it to load and always failing leaving the phone bricked with 507 error message.
I can load .37 and .52 on but .55 always failed on the 1st .cod file. I managed to load from my notebook which has 32 bit Vista. After wiping the phone with JL_Cmder v1.9.
I have tried using Desktop manager 4.3 and 4.5 on 64 bit Windows with the same fail.

Just waiting for the phone to do its thing before I testing the software.

Might be my RAID playing up not setting the files up.

Well at least it's working thats the main thing.

However if I go into profiles, it still has my custom ringtone (which was saved on my mediacard) listed for phone calls. So I'm still getting the right tone when I get a call. Just weird that I can't browse to it. Browsing pics on my media card is fine.
So I am no longer having this issue and when I go to Media it no longer says "scanning". The only things I have done to my BB since installing the software are to remove the PTT and MyFaves cod files to free up memory. I wonder if somehow MyFaves had something to do w/ it as I know that taps into your pics. Whatever - seems to be working fine now.

Can someone explain how to use DocsToGo to view a Word attachment that I receive in an email. It seems like you need to somehow have the file saved on a memory card or something but how do you save attachments you receive in an email?

Any ideas?

The site can't keep up with the traffic. Just have to keep trying.

Are you using BIS or BES? If you're using BES you BES version must support the DocsToGo.

I'm on BES. Trying to convince my IT admin to install 4.1.6 (no idea what we currently have) so I can get HTML email and I guess DTG - didn't realize you needed to provision BES for DTG. Do all of the versions support it, or just the newer ones?
