Default the basics - getting a curve in canada

Please Login to Remove!

hey all,

can anyone link me to some really basic FAQ regarding getting a curve in canada.

i was about to get one with rogers, is there any comparison between telus?

can a curve purchased in the states be unlocked then used in canada on rogers or telus? one of the reps at color ware told me they could not.

thanks

You can unlock one from the states and use on Rogers but not on Telus. Rogers is GSM and Telus is CDMA. You can't unlock devices on CDMA carriers. You could get an ATT or TMo Curve and use it on Rogers though.

GSM works all over the world. CDMA works only in North America (for the most part.) Devices are easier to change out using GSM due to the sim card. However, the CDMA Curve has more memory in it so there are advantages going that way too.

Any unlocked GSM BB will work on Rogers.

I've had my Curve through Rogers for just under a year now. The prices are extortionary, but the service and coverage is good (I have great signal strength throughout the Golden Horseshoe, GTA, and SW ON). Prior to signing with Rogers, I was with Telus for about ten years and only left because they weren't offering the BB I wanted at the time.

Telus has better rates and packages, so if you don't need to use the BB outside of NA, you might want to have a look at what they can offer you.

i was told the curve purchased from telus cannot be unlocked.
then again the little shit could have been lying to me.

when you say "make sure the pin is released" is that referring to making sure it's unlocked?

Watch the language please.

I have explained via PM and in this thread. You CANNOT unlock a CDMA phone. Telus is CDMA and you can't use it on another CDMA carrier because other CDMA carriers don't allow it and it can't be used on a GSM network at all. If you get a Telus BB then you MUST use it on Telus. If you get a Sprint BB then you MUST use it on Sprint, etc.

Which one you will prefer will depend on where you live. Out here in rural
Alberta, I get great coverage from Telus compared to Rogers. When I lived
in Calgary though, my coverage with Rogers was fine. YMMV.
