Okay since there were a lot of questions about this, here goes:
No, this isn't photoshopping, the only use of photoshop was to make a wall paper.
What you need:
Tripod
Camera with some amount of manual adjustment (aperture, shutter speed, etc)
Photo editing software that can crop and rotate
BlackBerry 8300
1. Decide where you want the effect to take place. A square on angle is easiest as you won't have to worry about perspective
2. Take 1 shot with no device, then another with it in the shot. DO NOT move ANYTHING between shots. This is why you need the tripod.
3. Load the images into the photo software. In photoshop I combine the two into one image with the shot with the device at about 50% opacity. Then from the non device image, crop out the area under the where the LCD is in the device image. This is why combining the images makes it way easier to figure out what to crop.
4. Save this crop as the appropriate device LCD size (320x240 for the Curve) and set it as the device wallpaper
5. Without moving the camera, place the device back into the shot and make sure it's lined up again.
6. Getting the lighting balance on the shot will take some paying with camera settings and possibly a lamp to make sure everything is visible. LCDs are not the friendliest things to photograph.
That should do 'er!
