My Pearl has found a new home and I'm eagerly awaiting the 8300 release. Some might call this stalking, but I like to think of myself as the new "T-Mobile Store Parking Lot Safety Official." My vigil has begun. :D

im a little bit concerned by the fact that the keyboard, in those new photos, looks very similar to the keyboard on the 8800 - with the angled edges on the keys etc. I hate the 8800 keyboard. I hope I'm wrong

I'd love to see an option for HTML email, and with the WiFi capabilities we're soon to be receiving it would make sense. Of course I'm not holding my breath. And there's always OS 5.0 :D

Where exactly is this 8300 model supposed to "fall"? Is it an "upgrade" to the 8100 (Pearl)? Is it a new line altogether? Other than the onboard cam, how does it stack up with the 8800? Just curious if this is intended to be a hybrid Pearl/8700 or something else entirely.

The 8300 isn't set in stone yet, especially for Verizon. I have not seen specifications for either device yet. Verizon often customizes these devices for their network. When the 8703e came out I was hoping it would include the Intel processor like the 8700g. Since Verizon needs to make the handset operate on the CDMA network they pulled that processor an included in the Verizon BlackBerry 7250. I hope that doesn't mean that the 8300 BlackBerry has all the media features yanked out of it. FWIW I'm all for a camera on the Blackberry. I use the device as a personal organizer and don't need to worry about a camera allowed at work.

The 8300 keyboard isn't remotely similar to the 8800 one. Think of it as a cross between the 7290, and the 8700.

Good question. I initially would have thought that the 8800 would be the Pearl with full QWERTY. But without a camera, it is clearly more aimed at the corporate customer.
Given the success of the Pearl in the consumer market and the success of the 8700 line in the corporate world, you think they would introduce a "shiny" full QWERTY cameraberry and an updated 8700 like device with GPS and wi-fi but no camera.
But we get a pearl looking 8800 without camera which would discourage some non-professional users and a 8300 line that will have wi-fi and a camera, supposedly. ??

My guess is since the pearl is such a huge hit, they want to made a variant of it for the business world, hence the full qwerty kb and sans cam and the added gps. other than that, they are pretty much similar aside from some minor software differences. I am def. waiting for the 83xx for Tmo, I'm just hoping it'll appear sometime in May, but the fact that 8820 is coming out this Monday, I hope it doesn't mean it'll be a while before the 83xx pop out from Tmo. Tired of using the Treo750 and Cingular's price.

The only common features to the 88XX and 83XX lines is that the 88XX doesn't have a camera and the 83XX does. WiFi and GPS will vary from specific model to specific model.

It's a new line (refer to the second digit in the model number). It's a full qwerty BB with camera. I woudn't consider moving from SureType to full qwerty -- or the other way around -- an "upgrade". The only "hybrid" model due out is the 8830 which combines CDMA and GSM support.

I absolutely love my 8700g's keyboard. I will be very happy if it feels similar!!!

I think the vast majority of users will agree the best keyboard so far has been the one on the 8700. If it ain't broke don't fix it, RIM.

7290 felt more solid, but the 8700 is great as well!

For me, the best keyboard of all was on the 7290, by a wide margin. Perfect in every way, super comfortable and I could type at an incredibly fast rate.
My ideal BlackBerry would be an 8700c in the body of a 7290.
The ideal BB for business.....especially for email maniacs like myself.......

having seen the recently made public photos of VZW's 8830, i've made up my mind that it's 8300 for me.
i like the cam, the keyboard, and overall form.
the real question for me will be, who's getting my business? (answer: most likely cingular, and definitely not VZW)

I can only hope that the rumors are true and T-Mobile gets the 83xx on May 7 like the rumor says. I wish I knew where or who this date is coming from. Any one know?

its highly unlikely that Tmo will be out with the 83xx on May 7th IF its coming out from Tmo at all. thats only a week and half from now. Its not even confirmed that Tmo will GET the 83xx... sad but true.

Tmobile is acting shady with only releasing their 8800 online. That could mean something else like the 8320 is right around the corner.
