My company just bought 250 of these and we switched from Sprint to Verizon...my question is?....are they able to now track my whereabouts with a GPS in this phone? if they have purchased the software and pay a monthly fee? if so, how can you thwart such an effort? thanx in advance for any help

You can turn your phone off when you are off duty. If you boss is paying to know your location during work hours, don't you think he might be upset if you "thwart such an effort"?

Believe it or not, you boss does have a right to know where you are when on his time just as he can track and monitor your internet usage at the office.

Sorry but being a "boss", I find you kinda looking guilty of something.

If it puts out a signal it can be tracked. It is just a question of how much time and money you company wants to spend to do it.

Now Sprint offers a very simple system for tracking certain supported phones to business customers who pay an aditional fee.

Sprint Business - Precision Locator(SM)

The 8703e is not listed as a supported device. Though the 7250 is. It may just be a case of Sprint failing to update their webpage in a timely manner.

There is a balance that needs to be found here. There are valid reasons why your boss wants to be able to track employees. You have an equally valid desire to be free of constant monitoring. If their demand to monitor your location is too much to bear you may want to start looking for a new job.

EDIT: also, why is this in the 8300 forum?

I missed the verizon part!

Field Force Manager - Pricing

Verizon is not as informative as Sprint. Perhapse you could give them a call and ask if it works with the 8703e.

This is a Java application that resides on the device. You will know if you are being tracked since your employer will need you to be logged in. it is not a "stealth" application.

The GPS is only disabled for user applications - that doesn't mean the network can't request your location from the device - this is a necessity of E911. I would expect that the device at least supports the option of having the network "ping" the GPS location through RRLP - whether your BES admin can do the same thing is another question.
