Opera Mini is a web browser just like the Blackberry Browser (only better in many regards). You use it to surf the Internet over a data connection.

If you have Wi-Fi on your device you can use Opera Mini to surf the Internet over that connection. If you always have access to a wireless Internet connection and are able to connect with your Blackberry then I imagine you could get rid of your data plan for web surfing.

But Opera Mini doesn't do email (unless you go to the website like gmail.com or hotmail.com).

I have Tmobile and tried to install Opera Mini (don't have data plan) at home on my wifi network. It didn't work even after multiple attempts. I went back to the Opera website and they said that you need a data plan in order to use Opera Mini. Is that not true anymore?

Try Opera Mobile instead. It works with TMobile, and I have it on a Pearl.

Your profile says you have an 8300. In this case you will not be able to use wifi as that phone does not have the capability. You would need an unlocked 8320.

Nope you need a data plan to use messaging programs.

BTW are you in the Caribbean or Caymans Islands by any chance?

That's kinda impossible considering Opera Mobile isn't available for the Blackberry.
