Angry 8320 Mass Storage Device doestn detect im using a Macbook

I own a Blackberry Curve 8320 and have a 2GB Kingston SD card in it. The Blackberry can detect the card and use the storage space on it just fine, but my computer cannot detect the memory card (it can connect to the BB just fine) at all. In other words, when I connect the BB to my computer, no mass storage device is detected, but I can put files on the BB's internal memory (a mere 2 and a bit MBs large) but cannot access the SD card.

I have the latest OS on the BB, 4.2 SP2 for desktop manager, and all the latest updates for Windows Vista. Mass Storage Mode is set to "On", and I am unable to find the BB in "B" drive in computer management.

I am at my wits end, is there anything else here that I haven't tried, or that I have overlooked which might get it to work as a USB mass storage device?

Thank you

Exact same issue , i am using a macbook, can someone suggest a solution

Have you tried to format the card on your macbook? And then formatting it a second time on the phone?

Well 4.5 is beta as you know. And that's probably not the best to be using when you have issues with a memory card.

Pilot1940: can't think of anything at the moment. If I do, I'll post a suggestion. Sorry man.

Alright so I think I may have figured out the problem.

While playing around, trying to get it to work, I was going through ringtones I created and had put on my MicroSD previously, all in .WAV format. While one was playing, I connected my BB to the computer, and my H: drive fired right up. So i transfered some files etc. Then I tried again without anything playing and it didn't recognize the card.

So it is my belief that as long as you have your BlackBerry accessing the SD card when you plug it in, it will recognize it, it's worked for me every time since. So I suggest:

-Removing your SD card
-Insert SD card into adapter and card reader and connect to your computer
-Put on a few songs (incase one or two don't read properly) **mp3's should work**
-Reinsert SD card into BB
-Reboot
-Open the Media Player app
-Play any of the songs and simultaneously connect to your computer
-Open the media broswer (software v4.3)

I hope this works for you guys as well as it worked for me. Post if you have any problems, I'm going to try and see if I can get a failsafe way for this to work.

Default Corrective action

I read through the entire thread last night and called up a tmobile rep today:
Here's the solution that worked for me (re: ability to add/edit media card files in Roxio/not recognizing card):

Apparently all it took was a reformat of the card on the phone itself (not via the G: drive or whatever). This reduced my 8GB card to 3.6 :( because apparently the curve's firmware can only recognize up to 4GB. Good luck.

try this next time, before you disconnect your phone by pulling the cord make sure you use that safely remove hardware icon thing in the corner. double click on it and press options or advance or sumthin and select the blackberry pearl 8100.... somethin along those line and highlight it and press disconnect. Then remove cord from phone

I am having the same difficulty except I could also not get the Roxio to read the media card but the BB could. I was able to get Roxio to read the media card setting the camera to send pictures to the media card and then taking a couple of pictures. Once pictures were on the media card, the card showed up on Roxio (with mass media setting turned off). Still with mass media setting turned on and several music files and pictures on the card, I cannot get my computer to recognize the media card.

I have a Pearl 8100 and this puppy has been recognizing the card just fine until my system got upgraded to Office 2007. That shouldn't have any connections but all kinds of goofy things have gone wrong since. I have XP on a Dell Notebook and a 3GB memory card. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the BBY desktop manager several times, battery pulls, removing the memory and blowing on it for dust and nothing helps.

has anyone tried leaving it at prompt rather than auto connect?
Also, do you have any IT policy device lock? I use mass media storage on mine (gave up on trying to get media manager to work). When i connect the bb to my laptop (worked both vista and xp), i have to enter my device password to get mass media storage to work (actually, both on DM as well as the device). Are you getting prompted for a password on the device and not plugging anything in?

I went on another list and found this... It took some fiddling to find the computer management and the disk management, but my system was recognizing the card, and named it G, the same drive as our corporate shared drive. Finding it this way allowed me to change the drive letter. Don't know WHY it suddenly decided to be uncooperative, but it appears to be happy today...as am I.

I solved my problem.

It was a drive letter assignment issue and can easily be resolved by doing the following:

(Make sure you BB is connected and Mass Media Support is turned on)

1. Goto Control Panel
2. Computer Management
3. Disk Management

In the upper right you should see your Media Card as a letter.

4. Right click on it and chose "Change Drive Letter" and make it something that is not in use that never will be.

This worked perfectly for me. I did uninstall and resinstall the desktop manager, but I don't think I had to. That was just my first attempt.

Good luck.

i have the same problems as the original poster of this thread & i've tried everything he's tried. i've also tried this but i've had no luck in finding my media card in the disk manager.

i'm okay with just using an external reader for the card, though... it's going to be a bit annoying but i suppose it's not that bad.

Is there any updates on this? I'm using a 8310 on Windows XP SP3 with DM 4.5. Everyime I plug my BB into my laptop it starts searching for RIM Mass Storage Device. I never finds a correct driver though. I've tried inserting the CD that came with my phone but that has yet to solve the problem. Any other suggestions?

Take out all the spaces after and paste it in address since this gay thing won't let me post links yet.

Go to http ://www .tacktech .com/display .cfm?ttid=400 and follow the directions - or follow mine below.

Right click on "My Computer" - Select "Manage" - Click on "Disk Management" on the left under "Storage" - Find your SD card in there - Right click on the SD card - click on "Change Drive Letter and Paths..." - click the "Change" button - Change the drive letter to a letter than isn't being used.

There is a Windows fix for this OS bug - HERE is the Microsoft page for the hotfix: http ://support .microsoft .com/kb/297694
