Default Not recognizing battery or charger after reset???

Please Login to Remove!

I've got a Bold 9700, which was working completely fine, battery is good (tried several aftwerward).

I did a soft/master/whatever you want to to call it reset (Alt, R-Shift, Del), and the screen went black, but didn't come back on. After a few minutes I pressed the power button, and nothing.....so I disconnected the battery and reconnected it, and still nothing.....no reboot, no red LED, nothing.
Plug it into a charger....nothing, not even the red LED.

What the F happened? Has anyone experienced this before? Any ideas of what to try? My computer won't recognize it because it's not even powering on, so reinstalling the OS isn't an option at this point.

Thanks in advance for any advice.....

What prompted you to do the soft reset? That is, what was happening, what did you see?

Did you recently drop the device? Get it wet? Expose it to moisture?

Have you tried removing the microSD card (if you are using one)?

The reset was my first step in wiping it, not because there was anything wrong.....I'm getting a new one from work so I was going to give it to my GF.

The reset seemed to work, the unit powered off and went to a black screen.....but didn't ever come back on.

It was working perfectly fine before the reset and now it's like it doesn't recognize that theere is a battery or a charger connected.

Could be a bad battery. Have you tried a new OEM battery? Will it connect to a PC via DM?

Does it power on and give you a blinking light? If so, with the unit on, remove the battery for about 30 seconds, put it back in and see if it reboots.

Tried another battery from a working 9700, no dice.....tried this battery in another 9700 and it works fine, so it's not the battery.

Doesn't power on at all, I don't even get the red LED that you normally get when you first connect the battery or charger.
Won't connect to a PC for the same reason.

Humor me and start over from scratch.

Remove the battery, microSD card, and SIM card.

Connect to a wall charger. You hopefully see the LED light up red. If so, that will go on for a minute or so, then you'll see a white screen with a picture of a battery with a slanted line across it. If you see that, go on. If you don't even see the red LED then I don't know. Seems to much coincidence to me that some hardware failure happened at same time you did a soft reset, but could be.

Replace just the battery. There will be some seconds, and hopefully it will boot. Go on to the next steps.

Replace the SIM. Does it boot? If so, replace the microSD. Does it boot again?

Lost the wall charger, only have USB, but I'll try to borrow one and try it....I've found a couple similar examples where the wall charger has worked.

Also found similar cases where it mysteriously worked again after being left overnight, so I'll try both and see what happens.

Post an update when you get the chance.

Go ahead and try with the USB. I think you should still get the red LED and then the white screen with no battery indicator.

For what it's worth, some people say the USB will not charge a completely depleted battery. It has for me in the past, but I haven't tried with the 9700.

At any rate, you say you have tried using a known good battery. Where I'm going is starting at the beginning with no battery, no SIM, and no memory card, and seeing if the device functions the way it should under those circumstances when plugged into power.

Still nothing.....must have fried it somehow during the reset, guess I won't be doing that ever again.

Tried it with a wall charger and brand new battery.....still nothing, no power, no led, nothing.

What you described is a soft reset and it has nothing to do with the problem; it is coincidence.

If the computer sees the BlackBerry when you connect on USB, you could try wiping with JL_CMDER and then reinstalling the OS. If not I think the BlackBerry is done.
