Question BES on MY antivirus server

Please Login to Remove!

I Have Bes 4.2.5. running exchange 03 sp2 both on windows 2k3 r2.

I want to move the server that it is currently installed on to a lesser used server. the server happens to be my symantec antivirus server as well as my numara track-it server.

my question is : are there any unforseen problems if i add my bes to this environment? i know BES is a demanding application and uses certain ports.. Symantec uses various ports that are in a very large range of ports.

Any advice would be great.. thanks to all who reply

I have Symantec AntiVirus server set up on the same box and my BES, no issues between the two at all that I've come across.

Are you gonna be running each application on it's own VM or no?

Question

yes they are going to run in VM ware and both are on the same server... Also we are going to use av 11 and sql 2005.

I personally would rather use its own Vm so i dont have to worry.

If runing on seperate VM's and SQL is on its own box you should be ok.

But not all on same box. SEPM / AV 11 is a resource hog. 6 gig foot print and 1.5 gig DB for 100 users.
Make sure you have extra drive space.

On a total side note. What are you using Numare Track it for? I used to use it for asset management, but found SpiceWorks (free) to give me just as much data and it's just a web app.

I am using 11.0 endpoint protection mgr on the same machine as the BES (4.1) w/ no problems. However i did not install the email for exchange component that comes with the symantec product on the same box thinking that the exchange manager (2003) would conflict with the symantec email product.

Agreed. Runnning each "server" or "application" in it's own VM you should be fine.

Isn't running RIM and Symantec software on one server grounds for dismissal? I can't think of any two more finicky products out there!

He's says he will be running them on 2 seperate VM's so it's just like installing them on 2 seperate physical servers.

I read into it that both are going to be on the same VM image - it's rather confusing verbage. You'd need a separate license to split the duties but it is the right way to go.
