My wife and I both travel for work and are in separate cities most of the time, and use BB Messenger to keep in touch during the day when it would be difficult (or discourteous to our co-workers) to call...the only drawback is that we sometimes have to explain why we start chuckling for no reason in the middle of a meeting. :P

I pretty much ignore contact status as it is a bit flakey. As gziz mentioned, the D and R above the check icon for your message will indicate whether or not a message was delivered/read. A message to a truly unavailable contact will simply have a check mark next to it.

I haven't verified this, but it seems easier to keep PIN messages. I consider BBM ephemeral but handier when you want to have an IM-style discussion. I'll shoot PIN messages as short notifications or in situations where a call would really take much more time than necessary.

The messenger is the coolest application on my phone (Aaargh... Exxageration...!!!) I am busy these days and hence don't always reply to all my buddies in time. But hey, I am trying my best.

I've not faced such a problem. Then again, I keep charging my phone every day. Even at my workplace I carry a charger and keep it charging. The horror of not having my BB charged is frightening to say the least. But I have not noticed any difference on my side. I use the BB messenger extensively.
