Default Which one is better: E61 or BB? Please participate.

Hi,

This debate has been on since a few people touted the Nokia E61 as the "BlackBerry killer" (lol). I saw a tech show in India (the most watched domestic tech show) and the analysts said that the days of a BB may be numbered (haha) because of the new phones having BB connect and more. They rated the Nokia E61 to a score of 79/100 (amongst the best) and the BB 8700 a meagre (and perhaps biased) 61/100. I have changed my signature since and now 'love' my BB so much almost relate to it and debate with anyone that says different.

So please tell me your opinion. Which one is better? Is the E61 the BB killer as it is claimed?

You know what side I am on (Yeah right!).

well, I have used both a BB7250 and the Nokia E61.

My observations. The BB is much much more stable. Admittedly, the E61 software release is in its infancy, but the thing has a tendency to crash a fair bit.

The BB interface is somewhat better thought out than S60v3 on the E61. It's just more intuitive, and I'm saying this as a long-time symbian user, having had several symbian phones over the years (Nokia 3650, 3600, 6682, 7610, 9300, 9500)

On the other hand, the call quality is somewhat better on the E61.

I don't think RIM really has anything to worry about.

Well, it all comes down to what you need...

You need all the bells and whistles of BES, the comfort of the scroll wheel? Go for the BB solution.
If a proper cell phone is what you're asking for, but still need to have access to your company calender and mail - than the E61 is the tool for you

I chose the E61 solely for the fact that it does so much more than the 8700 or any BB currently out right now. Mostly for media, and I like the browser a lot more than I do the 8700. I am not saying at all that the 8700 is a bad device but it does not fit my needs as I use my phone 50/50 business/personal and do not want to carry two devices.

Even with that said, BB has no worries. There are still some bugs with the desktop software for BIS, and some syncing issues. All of the contact fields are not synced with Outlook via Nokias desktop software (although the main ones are) I still like to have everything at my fingertips. Also a big issues is that some notes with the calendar are also not synced. So in this regard BB still has a lot going for them, but others are catching up quickly and BB needs to step it up a bit more in the future to remain competitive or the other so called "bb killers" will start to make a dent in the BB namesake.

Wink No Suprise with result so far

When you ask this question on a forum that is principaly about blackberry's (I picked up the subtle hint of what the whole foruum was about by it's name), we wouldn't expect any other result.

Now if we were to ask the same question on E61forums.com or notablackberryuserforum.com or the like we might get a different bias.

I would also estimate of the total membership of this forum the total number of users with e61's isn't that big. Therefore I ask what does it prove.

I may as well go to a football game and asking the home team which is the better team. Even if the home team are loosing the "supporters" will tell me it's their team!

It really depends on the balance of personal needs. I jumped straight to E61 in Jun and went to 7290 after ebaying the E61.

I agree that E61 has so much more features. What I used most is email, SMS and phone in that order and 7290 serves me better in these aspects. E61 does so many things well but quite poor on the 3 things most important to me.

My experience switching to a E61 was quite positive. I was a 7100g user. I fully expected all the problems to be followed after the switch but there was no issue at all. The BB Connect worked perfectly. The configurations were done mostly automatically. I just put in the SIM and updated the IMEI number and the service book was sent to my E61 in a minute or two. Considering I used the quickoffice tools and the media player constantly, I actually found the e61 quite stable (perhaps because I am using the latest software version). I have used BlackBerry devices (starting with 950) for the last six years and I actually think the e61 is quite a good substitue. It is not as appealing as the Pearl but I just had enough fun with SureType. I really prefer a real QWERTY keyboard.

sid.... knock knock! Youre asking which phone is better on a blackberry forum. If you really want to know, you should ask the same question on a nokia E61 forum too :D

well,

i have both ... e61 and BB 8700, i love them both the same since their job is almost the same but there are some differences purpose why I use them together.

my 8700g is way better to receive all my mail and to keep chatting with people ... BB messenger rocks hehehe,

my E61 is purely for calling and browsing the net through wifi and 3G. (its the only 3G phone that dont have any camera ... eliminate the possibility of video call hehehe)

so which one does better ... respectively, both have their ups n downs

Default E61 is a killer if you need a modem

I switched from the 8700 to the E61. Why? Because I need a 3G modem to tether to my MacBookPro when I'm on the road (which is every day).

There's no question at all that the 8700 is more stable, more usable, more robust, better designed, nicer keyboard, and if your principal requirement is email then it's by far the best choice. However, I carry a laptop nearly all the time, and I need a modem. The E61 rocks for this, very solid connections, and this more than compensates for the occasional instability, shaky keyboard, pain in the b*tt user interface.

If RIM gave me a 3G machine (no EDGE on T-Mobile UK) that would tether to the MacBook then I'd ditch the E61 at once.
