Default Reading from MS Outlook - reports error

Please Login to Remove!

Hi, very new to a BB 8100, but totally impressed, however stuck. Sync to my desktop has been working fine, but just started stopping at record 298 of 696 records when sync. over the USB lead. Then reports a error to the MS Server !

I'm stuck as to why, suggestions welcome

I'm using a BB 8100, the latest v4.2 desktop software, USB link cable to a XP macine with Outlook 2002

THanks - Peter

Peter, you have an error in the contact that is the record #298. To sync through the Desktop Manager, contact from Outlook must have a First, Last or Company name in one of those fields. If all three are empty, or some odd data in one of those fields, the sync errors out.

I don't know how to tell you which of your records is 298, but if you go to your Desktop Manager and look at the error log (Open DM, click Synhronize, click top tab Configuration, last button, view log) you will see that record.

Fix the data in it, and your sync should proceed. Good luck!

Can you get down to the part of the log where the address book portion is--that is likely where the 696 records are... such as:

On 4/26/2007 4:07 PM
"Synchronize Handheld Address Book with Microsoft Outlook Contacts
First System: Handheld
Second System: Microsoft Outlook
Conflict Resolution: Notify
Input From First System:

Look toward the bottom of this where the Outlook data (2nd System) begins a long list...

No, I think that line is from the BB data... all say the same thing. What in your log has 696 total records... is it your calendar or address book? Does your calendar have 696 total records...or your address book?

Find one of these lines..."Total Inputs From Second System: 41"

Hi, contacts - 1132 records, calendar - 696 records, so looks like calendar, cannot see a line as you suggest in the log, which I can mail over if it would help better - I'm on

OK, so it is the calendar. Somewhere in Outlook Calendar you have and error in the data. I don't know how to tell you which is the 298 entry, I have read that they are consecutive, i.e., the order you entered them.

Is this the first time you have synced with Outlook? If you have in the past, then the error is likely coming from a newer record.

Read this thread also... lots of people have found attachments to a calendar entry in Outlook, that's the bug, removed the attachment, all works well.

Also, you are using the latest 4.2 Desktop Manager, but it is it Service Pack 1? I read that updating DM to that version has cleared the problem also, although I am thinking you are ok there.

Joe, thanks vm for your prompt and helpful replies. I eventually seem to have cleared the problem, by deleting and re-installing the DM software, then exporting from outlook the calendar and deleting the top two entries - as it happens the two most recent. Everything then went ok.

Must admit the transfer seems to be more fragile than the sync software I used with my previous Fujitsu Pocket Loox.

Regards - Peter
