Default Did water kill this bb 9700?

Hey there!

Ok so here's the story of a ( maybe ) totally useless blackberry bold 9700.

One good day my sister decided it would be a good idea to drop her 1 month old blackberry into a pool and tried to turn it on afterwards..

Amazingly, the cellphone turned on and it worked just fine for almost 3 days. After that it needed a recharge so she plugged it to a charger and thats when it all went bad.

I decided to give it a check and, well. The battery is dead, it measures 0v so thats already in the trash.

The cellphone however, when powered on with another battery it does turn on: Its LED lights up red, shows the boot screen and the bar fills up like 1/5 and it then freezes, reboots and does it all over again.

Btw,

I do have the latest blackberry desktop software and the right OS for the blackberry installed, I also deleted the vendor.xml file and dont have or ever had anything blackberry installed in my computer before today.

Even having all that installed and ok I cannot get my computer or the application loader to recognize the 9700 when I plug it in.

And, i have another bold 9700 and that one gets instantly recognized by my computer so its not the cable/computer/port on computer, etc.

Anybody have any ideas?

Thanx in advance

Alex.

In most cases, after getting wet, if the battery is left in and device is left running, the moisture will eventually fry the board and render the device useless.

Since you didn't try to dry it, it is most probably done for. BBs and water do not mix whatsoever.

This is very true. My wife has done this (drop her Blackberry in water). She's actually done it multiple times.

In the past with her 8703e and recently with her Bold 9000.

With the 8703e, she decided to leave the battery in and power it on and try to use it.. Worked for a few hours and DEAD!

With the Bold, since she called me right away, I told her to take the battery out right away and stick the BB in a bowl of uncooked rice. We had it in there for 4 days, and now it's functioning fully for the past few months. Battery is holding a regular charge, all functions of the device seem to be working flawlessly.

So even if it tries to boot up and all, its useless? I mean, something's still good in it, and its probly just the usb port or its controller/chip/whatever thats dead.

Is there any way to connect it, reset it, do something to it without using its usb port?

Other than that I think i've tried it all.

IMHO, not worth the effort or the cost to fix it.

If she has no data back up, then ll is likely lost.

Did the same exact thing quite by accident, not realizing that with a drink in one hand and a BB in the other, I would just sink...with the phone (drink survived - LOL). I have a saltwater pool. it did exactly what yours did, and then days later, died altogether. I bought a new one.

I think the best way still would be. When your phone drops in the water take it out fast and dry it, and I mean dry it. Open up your BB, un screw your complete BB and dry it. Then you have a higher succes rate without frying and later death accident.

If you don't know how 2 open your BB! Give the search button a try..
