Any idea when the launch date of the phone will be for Rogers?

"In the coming weeks"

By Sept I would assume. I'm going to check with my contact at RIM for some free 9800's. At the same time I might find out when Rogers is officially launching, but if Rogers isn't saying, RIM won't say I'm sure.

Haven't heard from anyone at RIM. Have seen a couple of employees going around with the 9800 tho.

Most people I know there don't have knowledge of when providers will have the phones.

Maybe end of Aug? We can only hope

This isn't a RIM control issue, but rather a Rogers control issue. I have heard that the devices have shipped to distribution centers nationwide. However, they are waiting on Rogers to give the go ahead to move them onto the dealers.

I was told October 2 by a Rogers Corporate Rep. Take it as you will though....

That date seems a little longer away than what I thought the release date would be, but then again, Rogers has not even got dummy units or any marketing stuff so it's still at least a month away I'm assuming....

It is a little strange that they do not have the marketing stuff in their possession. I talked to a buddy of mine that works @ a Rogers store.. and nothing has been sent to them as of yet.

I've poked around and rumour seems to be October. Other rumour is that Telus will have it mid-sept.

Is there any truth to the rumuor that an unlocked AT&T slider will not be FULLY functional on Rogers as the proper service books are not in place? I was under the impression that it would be the exact same as owning a Rogers banded one.

Only currently, because Rogers are not offering the 9800, they don't have the proper service books.
When they themselves release it (rumours Oct. 2010) they will have the proper service books. But of course, you may as well get one from them at that time.

So does this mean that certain features will not work?

This is not true in the least. Absolute BS. I have a unlocked 9800 on Rogers and it functions 100% on the Rogers network. Not a single issue, all the service books are there.

I got a sept 24th day from Rogers. For all its worth its going to be at least 1-2 months after Iphone 4g to avoid the tussle. Roges has done this in the past and I expect nothing less. Whether its RIM telling them or Rogers who are concerned about sales it is unclear but always expect that much time.

Oct first 2 weeks there has been a delay at Rogers according to some reps internally.

Why the big secret? If they told everyone a date and buffered some time into it wouldn't that be better than wait and wait and wait. In this manner other devices come out which show better specs and then make you think twice about the purchase????!

Got the email from Rogers 30 minutes ago stating that the Torch is available today and to call customer service. So I did. I called and low and behold they have can't process my upgrade because it is not even available on their "system". When I told her about the email and the website link she said that I must have read it wrong. Maybe marketing should inform customer service and the hardware upgrade dept that they sent out emails to all the Rogers customers saying that the Torch is available. This just causes people to be pissed off.
