I was wishing for the same thing. But since I have learned to swipe firmly on the pad and treat it like a touch screen my fustration has been greatly reduced.
Looking forward to new themes

Really sucks - one of the downfalls of this OS...RIM did a lousy job on some parts of the UI. There really should be an option, which would allow the user to turn that stupid feature on, or off. I hate the feature and hate more that if I swipe too hard, which is easy to do, or hit the escape key, it either changes screens, or closes the stupid tray, yet another dumb feature on this OS.

I thought I was getting the hang of it, but I am pretty sure I am getting worse and more frustrated with this home screen daily. It was different, but now I find myself flipping trays and opening stuff I didn't want, (maybe my sensitivity is to high)
I never wanted a theme with my tour but sure will try some if and when they show up.

There are Themes out now, that do away with the sliding screens/trays etc. I got one and now my 9780 has a theme like OS 5.

And how do you know this? Is this what you wish for, or do you know this for a fact? If so, please share...

Thank god for that - I had downloaded the simplex theme, but found one serious shortcoming in that the universal search is nowhere to be found. I can't live without that, so I'm back to the qwirky sliding home screens...yukkkk!

Interesting as I never use the universal search, and find the Simplex theme a godsend. I wish they had a U theme, so I am never happy.

It's just easier than hitting mail\"s", and it searches everywhere, but then the search is limited to very few data fields.

Yes, there are two "simple" themes out now. The charging indicator (lightening bold) doesn't work but that is minor. There is also a an "L" theme that works.

Not only the charge indicator, but application shortcuts and universal search not working either. Oops...
