Default Voice commands

Please Login to Remove!

Good morning,

I have an 8800 on Rogers Wireless in Canada.

My Voice Dialing is driving me crazy. It doesn't recognize most of the names of my family or friends. It only recognizes simple stuff like "Home" or "Wife." I can't even dial my wife by her name, although she is Greek and her name is definitely not North American.

Is there a reference out there that can help me get better at using this? At this point, it's mostly useless for me. Too bad as it's one of the reasons I bought the phone.

Thanks for any help,
Michael

Wirelessly posted (8310; The Juggernaut)

I gave up using it and use speed dialing instead--works best for me.

Works nicely for me, and one of the primary reasons I upgraded from my 8703e. The Curve uses the same excellent voice recognition software as used on my Motorola E815, which I found highly accurate.

One thing you've got to watch out for is the name order of your address book display. The voice dialer expects the same order, so if you've configured your address book for "first, last" then make sure you say the name in that order.

"Call - John - Smith - Home"

or

"Call - Jane - Doe - Mobile"

Works 99% of the time for me, whether using the handset or headset.

My phone before my 8320 was an E815, I must repectfully disagree with your opinion.

Voice recognition software has made big advances since the E815 (see Yahoo's onesearch voice, etc.)

I believe an upgrade would help greatly.

I just speak the number I want it to call...and it works flawlessly that way.

You disagree that it works 99% of the time for me?

Or that it's based on the same software that was used on the E815?

I'm not sure how you could disagree with the former, and I'm pretty sure I could prove the latter . . .

Try spelling the name phonetically. For example, my wife's grandmother's name is spelled "Marie", but pronounced "May-ree", so that's how I spell it in the phonebook.
But my voice dial rarely misses. Hope that helps.

Try adjusting the sensitivity settings under Options-Voice Dialing-Sensitivity to improve your results.

I did not have good luck with voice dialing, either. Bust speed dialing is great. I recently acquired a Jabra blue tooth. Voice dialing works great with that, but you do have to say the name how it is in your address book.

I use ln, fin, so I say Doe, John, mobile. Blue tooth works great, but I mainly use it in the car.

I had such a miserable time with my speed dial that I finally deleted it from my Curve. I gained a lot of memory and am very happy without it. It takes less time to speed dial or type the first couple of digits of the name and then select than to fight with the voice asking me "Did you say [wrong name/number]?!!
