I know this wont be of any technical help to you but I had a similar problem dealing with .53. The issue seems to be with my pc and not my BB. After pulling my hair out and several 'fixes', I tried a fresh attempt on my laptop as opposed to the pc I was using. Updated with no problems on the first try! There seems to be something my BB does not like about my pc. To this day the pc has problems executing upgrades to all of the BB's in the family (three). I'm sure there is some sort of corrupted file somewhere on the pc or something. Try another computer and see if that helps.
