Exclamation Bug with Samtime Chat Application for BES 4.1?

Please Login to Remove!

OK. I posted a thread a week or so ago about a possible problem with the internal BlackBerry clock: http://www.blackberryforums.com/showthread.php?t=30964 After some further investigation I believe I may have uncovered a bug with the Sametime Chat Application for Sametime on BES 4.1. I haven't called this in to RIM yet but I'm going to post the steps to reproduce the problem and the workaround to see if anyone else can duplicate it.
  • BES System Specs - Domino 6.5.4fp1, BES 4.1.0.40 wMDS
  • Sametime System Specs - Domino 6.5.4fp1, Sametime 6.5
  • Steps to Recreate the Problem:
  1. Log on to Enterprise Messenger on your BlackBerry.
  2. From Enterprise Messenger Options make sure that 'Show Conversations in Message List' = Yes
  3. Have someone send you a test chat message.
  4. It doesn't seem to matter if you read this message or not but make sure it is the top item in your BlackBerry Mailbox. In other words make sure you do the next step before any new e-mails or other messages other than chat come to your BlackBerry.
  5. Login to Sametime from your pc using any of the Sametime clients. This will cause the Enterprise Messenger client to log you off of chat on your BlackBerry.
  6. Go to your BlackBerry Mailbox and you should now see that you have no messages. The messages are there the view is just screwed up.
  • Steps to WorkAround the Problem:
  1. To correct the view go to Options | Date/Time | Date/Time Source
  2. Toggle the setting to either 'Network' or 'BlackBerry' and save the change. You can change it back to what you had it set to if you want so long as you saved the change.
  3. Go back to your BlackBerry Mailbox and you should now see all the messages again.

Note: That I have been able to consistantly recreate this problem on an 8700 device. I'm going to test it on a 7290 as well.

If you test this please post your results.

One thing I forgot to mention. To reproduce this you must have Enterprise Messenger set to 'Show conversations in the message list'. I will update the steps to account for this.

Concerning the LCS client, I'm able to login to both my PC and handheld at the same time, so I really can't produce the issue. With that said, as far as the message disappearing, it does the same thing if you simply log out of the application (or it should). I would think this would be by design, to be perfectly honest - if the client is not connected at that source, and its a presence-based IM client (which I would assume Sametime is), then why would it still show the message?

With LCS, if I sign back into the client on the handheld, the message reappears in the message list, as well as the client.

Just my two cents. I would say your workaround presents more of a bug than the handheld client being signed off causing the message to disappear.

When I say that the messages dissapear I don't mean just the IM messages. I'm talking about every e-mail, IM, SMS, Phone log etc that was in my Messages view. I would completely understand and expect the IM messages to dissapear from view when I'm logged off of IM but not everything.

No. I have not gotten anywhere with RIM on this issue. Are you having the same problem?

Using Domino 7.0 on BES 4.1 with SP2
Sametime Server: 7.01
Handheld: Tmobile 8700G 4.1.0.346

Doesnt happen to me at all. Tried many times. I think its your Domino Server version, why not try upgrading to 7.0 or higher and then see if you are able to get this problem.

I'm also having a bit of trouble with this.

Sametime 7.5 (mobile client on the 8100 Pearl - Rogers Wireless)
IBM Host: messaging.ibm.com
Port: 1533 (at the office PC client - v7.5Blue - this is what is set)

I cannot connect, error out with check my connecitivity settings. Is there a different port used to connect or different HOST intirely? Also I've tried Direct Connection & also TCP/IP.

BES 4.1.3 also has a newer Enterprise Messenger client, I haven't gone to SP3 yet so not sure if it solves this problem for you.
