Cool At&t Vs T-mobile Curve 8310

Please Login to Remove!

My contract is up and I'm ready to phone mingle! I'm in love with the CURVE 8310 but I'm not sure which carriers device would be a better choice. I'm swaying towards AT&T because of the GPS. What are some other features and or differences thees two phones have? thanks a bunch!

AT&T Curve (8310) has GPS and no WiFi.
T-Mo Curve (8320) has WiFi and no GPS.

They're otherwise identical.

with the 8320 you can buy a bluetooth gps and use that to get GPS on the device. this will give you the best of both worlds (though ATT has a huge edge in converage)

In line with Sith's advice, if you opt to sign-up with AT&T for coverage reasons and want wi-fi feature, you can always trade your 8310 for an unlocked 8320. However, in doing so, you forego your warranty rights on the device. . . It's really up to you to define your needs/wants and weigh the available options.

Bear in mind that BB8320 on AT&T does not have UMA calling ability, only on T-mobile you can use this feature...

So to sum up:

8310/AT&T - GPS-equipped device; "More bars in More Places"; slightly higher service cost

8320/T-Mobile - Wi-Fi equipped device = coverage in Hotspots including UMA-calling feature; ability to navigate with paired BT GPS puck; excellent Customer Service; data tethering included in cheaper monthly service cost; flexible International Roaming plan....

Well you could always have a red 8320 if you purchase the housing for it.

Depends on the features you want. You can compare devices side-by-side at Blackberry.com but Penguin sums it up in his post.

Personally, I can't stand carrying additional devices so it's not really the best of both worlds for me. YMMV, of course. Coverage is going to vary from market to market.

I can't imagine why you would have a need to carry a GPS puck on yourself... I just keep mine in the vehicle, clipped to the visor.

Actually, coverage is a non-issue as AT&T and TMobile have roaming agreements in place between themselves and other GSM service providers .. . each subscriber just needs to realize what costs are attached to the roaming service based on their specific plans. . . and for anyone who's thinking of chiming in with VZW coverage, DON'T. . . this thread doesn't involve VZW, firstly, this is for a Curve device which VZW does not offer and secondly, OP asks about info between AT&T and TMO...

Thank you.

Ummm... maybe because people use GPS outside of their cars.
Have you ever walked around a city you've never been in before?
Handheld GPS is pretty convenient.

Ummmmmmm.... how far would you walk away from your car that would require GPS guidance?

Yes I have walked around in a city where I've never been before, I simply whip out my BB and go on Google Maps to show what street is the next corner from where I am (of course, I only need to look at a street sign to see where I am)....or to get directions to a particular address. . .

I guess pretty far... since I don't even own a car.
I don't think I'm the only one either.
When I flew to London, and walked around that city... I don't think I would have brought my car with me even if I had one.

My point, obviously, is that GPS navigation assistance isn't only for vehicles. If you can't understand that, frankly I'm not quite sure how I would explain it to you.

ohhhh... I completely understand the use of handheld GPS-- for hiking and outdoor recreation... but your arguement that you walk far coz you don't own a car doesnt necessarily equate to efficiency even with a handheld GPS guiding you along the way, why not take the bus or the subway or a cab?... your not having a car is simply your choice . . . do you use your GPS handheld everytime you walk, probably not? . .. and this is the point I'm trying to say . . .

yes, i had an 8310 before i sold it...the gps worked magnificently with t-mobile. But keep in mind that foul weather or cloudy skys will amlost always give limited connectivity. I find myself needing the wifi feature more than gps.

My two cents on this would be to choose the 8320 because you can have wifi/uma service where regular t-mobile coverage is limited i.e. at home/office and have a gps bluetooth puck...i recommend the Freedom keychain 2000 bluetoogh GPS, i hear its great!!!

This is what I'm trying to do right now! I can't get my email setup for T-Mobile. I hope the GPS works.
