Default Unlocking: Cingular Rep Says they won't

Please Login to Remove!

Anyone had this happen? I just called Cingular to unlock my device, and am being told that they do not unlock blackberry devices. The CSR said she's been with them for 6mo, and that's been the policy as long as she's been there. Am I doing somthing wrong? I called the number listed on these forums.

she is smoking crack. call back and get another CSR.
i usually call multiple times, even for a call to make sure of something.
all CSR's are not on the same page. some times you get the intuitive ones, sometimes you get the fcuking retards. With my luck, i always get the retards.

Wirelessly posted (Cingular 7130c: BlackBerry7130/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

They unlocked my blackberry 7130. Told them I was traveling to Europe. I had to wait five days for them to email me with the code because they have to get it from RIM but that's all.

Ok. I've got another rep who says the same thing as the first but says he'll get me in contact with the people who handle unlocking. then he says (and this seems a little weird), that the unlock dept will give me a code, but that when i follow the steps to unlock, it wont work!

PIN me or get me on BB messanger. I'll tell you who to call. Don't know if I can put phone numbers on a forum.

Kim,

The same thing happened to me. In fact, Cingular CS told me that they lacked the ability to unlock even if they wanted to.

Of course, this is total BS. Call Cingular's international Customer Service. Tell them you're going overseas and want to have the option to purchase a local prepaid sim card.

When I called they gave me the unlock code right over the phone and walked me through the process. It worked fine.

Look in your left pants pocket. All unlock codes for the 8700 should be there. If not, then check your right pocket. If STILL no luck, then either call your carrier's customer service or search the forums for ways of obtaining your device's unlock code.

yeah i called up and got mines unlocked she even gave me the code right there an then. ususally they submit the form and get back to you. i then called up for a coworker and they said they had to submit the form and they rejected the unlock form. so u just have to call care and find a rep to do it for u. have them sumbit the form for you all the time. u just have to meet the requirements for that

Default Canada unlock codes

In Canada, unlock codes are kept in the back pocket - right side.

When you call, one of the big requirements is that you bought your phone without a contract. Make sure you tell them you paid full price for it.

I have had problems procuring subsidy codes with their international support staff in the past. If you experience the same, contact Cingular BlackBerry Support @ 800-304-3044 who will then transfer you to their internal technical support team who in turn, should be able to fullfill your request. Keep in mind that the use of an unlock code does and will void your device warranty with RIM.

"Why do carriers do this? Money. Service providers generally charge less for phones than third-party vendors do, and they need to recoup that money...Locked GSM phones...cost you money when traveling, as you can't swap out your SIM...for one from a local carrier, which generally will charge less than most U.S. carriers do for overseas roaming." - PC World

I think they want you too be loyal and not screw around with other carriers because if they unlock their phones than chances are that they are going to screw around with another carrier. (hence them losing money) I know if I owned a cellular company, I would do the exact same thing. (it is good business). If you are a truly loyal customer than why would you need that "option". I know that I will stay with T-Mo because I am loyal.

Or maybe the simple fact that if the device is unlocked and it is used with another carrier. Thats one less blackberry RIM sells. So "voiding the warranty" might scare off some people.

Unlocking does NOT void any warranty. Every phone has an unlocking menu, why would a manufacturer put it there and also supply each carrier with the matching unlock code if it would void the warranty? Its a load of BS they feed customers. Personally I have supplied several thousand unlock codes for Blackberrys and guess what ? Never had a single person tell me it voided their warranty.

I just got two unlock codes from Cingular on Thursday. All I did was ask for the international BB support folks and then asked. After about 5 minutes on hold, the guy came back with one for mine and one for my wifes...No problems for me...
