Default Bes migration 4.x.x to 5.0

Please Login to Remove!

hi all,

I'm new in this forum and in BES world.

Actually we have a Blackberry server in 4.1.6 with MSDE database and we would like to move to a new BES5.0 with SQL 2005 database + BBR in a dmz.

Our Licenses and users are actually on the BES 4.1.6, i installed a BES 5.0 and a BBR in a dmz.

The communication between the BES5.0 and the BB router is OK and we are preparing the migration, but the hard work start here for me, i will explain myself with my problems:

Actually our BES 5.0 and the BBR are using trial licenses, and the 4.1.6 is using our licenses, we plan to use the Blackberry transporter tool to migrate user from BES 4.1.6 to our BES 5.0 to do this with a minimal service interruption we plan to add user licenses to our trial BES 5.0 version and to move users to the new BES 5.0. When the user migration is done we plan to shut down server and set our licenses on the new server.

is it a possible way of doing this??

regarding the licenses we are doing this because i saw that 2 Bes server with the same licenses can cause big problems.

If someone can tell me if I'm right or if I'm wrong i will appreciate

if I'm not enough clear let me know

Thx by advance
Flo

Get in touch with RIM T-Support and ask them for a migration kit. That will enable your trial license to a full license and your full license will be disabled.

I just called the support and i had myu answer thx !!
but i have another question regarding my migration, i found a web page which says:

How to perform a migration using the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Migration Kit

Doc ID : KB13871
Last Modified : 2007-10-12
Document Type : How To

Environment

* BlackBerry® Enterprise Server for Microsoft® Exchange

Procedure

To use the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Migration kit to migrate BlackBerry smartphone users from one BlackBerry Enterprise Server to another, complete the following steps:

1. Install the BlackBerry Enterprise Server software on the new computer with a different computer name and a local BlackBerry Configuration Database. Make sure to install the exact same BlackBerry Enterprise Server software version that is currently running on the production BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
2. Back up the production BlackBerry Configuration Database. See article KB10292 for more information.
3. Run the Change Database Wizard on the migration BlackBerry Enterprise Server to point the BlackBerry Configuration Database to the production BlackBerry Enterprise Server's BlackBerry Configuration Database.
4. Open BlackBerry Manager and make sure both BlackBerry Enterprise Servers, production and migration, are listed.
5. Move BlackBerry smartphone users from the production BlackBerry Enterprise Server to the migration one on BlackBerry Manager. Note: You have 90 days to perform this migration from the time the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Migration kit is shipped to you.
6. When the production BlackBerry Enterprise Server is ready to be decommissioned, back up the BlackBerry Configuration Database currently in use and stop the services on both BlackBerry Enterprise Servers. Important: Restarting certain BlackBerry Enterprise Server services will delay email message delivery to BlackBerry devices. For more information, see KB04789.
7. Restore the BlackBerry Configuration Database from the production server onto the blank BlackBerry Configuration Database on the migration server. See article KB10292 for more information.
8. Run the Change Database Wizard on the migration BlackBerry Enterprise Server to point the BlackBerry Configuration Database to the local computer.
9. Start the BlackBerry services on the migration BlackBerry Enterprise Server.

my problem is when it says that to use the migration tool kit procedure you need to have both server with the same version of the blackberry server..... which is not my case ..... is it going to work?

regards

Use the migration kit in conjunction with the Transporter tool.

Always better to wait until you have all of the necessary tools in hand before you attempt something.
