Actually, they don't because people at my job call Treos a BlackBerry as well.

I don't even bother responding to the questions anymore. I just give the offending person a look as if they just asked me which way was up and shake my head. I'm not nice to people in airports or in public in general for that matter.

I've owned a blackberry for TWO days, and already I've had two people warn me that the service will be shut down tomorrow!
If current events are any indicator, I will have to deal with 345 more jerks this year

yup!
I've had my 7130e for roughly a week now and I've gotten the question atleast 6 times, then if you include how many times my other family members that got 7130e's as well were asked i'd say a total of 15 in a week!
my reply is "when it stops working is when i'll worry"

Weird...I've gotten them too. I got three last week, and one guy was a total stranger. It's a bit old, but I like to reassure them that something will happen prior to them actually cutting this off.
It's good to see that I'm not the only one...

I get the question from people who know a little about IT, but from no one else.
I just chuckle, then keep on checking e-mail, RSS, weather, etc. while they stand there with their **** in their hands...

It's now getting on my last nerve, everytime I see to sign on to my IM services there is someone asking me about when my BB is gonna be shut down. Also my own mother is asking me now, since she wants a Blackberry to, every person that comes into my store and see that we have the price of the BB but no "dummy phone" to look at says "oh you had to take it down since they will be shut down right?" I reply "No I just dont have a dummy phone, but here you can look at mine."... Jerks

The local news ran a bit on the possible BlackBerry shutdown just the other night. Sure enough, I must of had a dozen people asking me about it the next day (including my mother!)

I hear this question constantly. From people within my company and people on the street. It's almost like they want you to talk about it and get frustrated on the spot. My answer to all of them is "your guess is as good as mine." I think the media can blow things out of preportion.
I RIM says they have a workaround for the pantent lawsuit they why hasn't anyone tested it to see how well it is going to work. Personally I think RIM is bluffing.

I had someone comment on the NTP lawsuit saying, "Rim will be shut down tomorrow, what are you gonna do now that you just bought a new Blackberry?" I told him he was wrong, which led to an argument. So i resolved it by checking the news, on my blackberry, and showed him that there was no indication as to what would happen. I then reassured him that I would always have my phone, even if just for PDA functions, and told him to get his facts straight next time he approached someone with a thoughtless question.
Justs really angers me that most people dont put thought in to a question. Its like word vomit.

So what that people are curious about the lawsuit, and possible interuption to service? It's a legit question. If it's really that annoying - bookmark one of the articles that talk about the issue and offer to email a link to the person asking. There are more important things to be annoyed about (like people who constantly reply with RTFM, or "Do a search" on this site... Now THAT'S annoying.) Frankly, 90% of the questions asked, are in the manuals, have already been asked, or consolidated in FAQs. What a boring place this would be if the self appointed thread police got any more out of control. <stepping off soapbox>

Even I got it a couple times and I've only had a blackberry 7290 for 2 days. I bought it from someone at a good price ($150) probably because they were afraid of the NTP patent dealeo, yet they weren't informed enough that it most likely won't be shut down completely due to the provisions being made (such as the software workaround) even if it is ruled to be shut down. Their loss, mwahahaha!

I have gotten this question from everyone from my wife's mother, who knows NOTHING about technology, to people that I would think would know better. And it's always with a little sneer like they know something I don't. I guess people see me looking at it too often, so they think I'll be lost without it. I just usually tell them that if there is a shutdown, I'm going to go crazy and kill everyone within a 10 mile radius. All while chuckling to myself. That makes them go away.
