I am trying to decide on if I should upgrade to the 9700 or stay with my 9000 for now. I've had my 9000 since about a month after launch, and it's only been dropped once suffering minor scratches. I would like to get an official 5.0 OS, but I am not sure if I like most of what I am hearing about the ones out now for the 9000.

I am also wondering if you could give me your pros and cons of both devices through your daily uses.

I have already ordered a new bezel, keys and track ball. I figured if anything that would help me out for the time being.

The 9700 is smaller than the 9000. With my big hands, it took a while to get used to. I instantly fell in love with the trackpad however. It's a HUGE improvement over the trackball.

One other minor note...The 9000 has a 802.11 a/b/g radio, the 9700 has only b/g if that makes any difference to you.

I had a 9000 for a week (long story) and finally ended up with a 9700... Love the 9700. The OS seemed to be quicker on the 9700 vs the OS5 upgrade on the 9000. I don't use 802.11a so no loss to me. I would love the 9700 more if it had -n though. Size difference and screen size were biggest cons but short lived issues. Overall I love the 9700 (I know I already said that) and the extra app memory.

I agree... 9700 is the clear winner here. Larger screen, trackpad... and a smaller form factor. Typing on the smaller keypad was a problem for the first several days, but I adapted quite easily. The camera on the 9000 sucks bilge water... the 9700's camera is far superior.

The OS is solid (just upgraded to 5.0.0.586 earlier today)... gave my wife the 9000 to replace her 3-yr old Pearl and she loves it. The 5.0 OS on the Bold is also rock-solid. Not sure what you heard about 5.0 on the 9000, but it's all good.

Freakin love the 9700 over the 9000

The hardware is sterdier
battery lasts 10x longer
trackpad is the best once you get used to it
love the locking button on top of the phone
the slightly smaller form factor is really awesome

Give it a try you will not be disappointed

9700 is just about what you'd want the 9000 to be after you had it for a year. Feels and looks better as well as everything the others have said here. For me, the screen res seems really tight which is great for reducing fonts down to view more screen text content. Get it, you'll be wondering why you didn't do it previously! Oh, the keyboard takes a little to get used to - I'm actually typing this out on it right now...!

Thanks for the replys so far... I kind of figured, that typing would take a little bit of getting used to, considering the overall size is smaller than the 9000. How about any other daily useage? Anything drastically different? I was also wondering if the email setup allows you to access o set up seperate folders. I have 4 different folders under my "Inbox" for emails I get pushed from work. My 9000 is on BIS, not the company's BES. And so it only sends me things sent to my "Inbox" and not the subfolders within it. Does the 9700 allow access to subfolders?

It's not a matter of whether the 9700 allows it or not... it's a function of the OS (5.x has more features than 4.x), and whether you're on BIS or BES. The rules are the same regardless of the device, aside from OS versions and BIS/BES.

I'm about to make the same decision here -- been having BB9000 issues, and I'm due for an upgrade...

I'm nervous about the keyboard, but like most of you mentioned, its probably just a matter of getting used to it. Its hard to get a good feel for the keyboard and how it feels in your palm when in the AT&T store, since they're usually attached to the security device.

Then again, I've switched multiple times between the 8100, 8310, 8800, 9000 etc. and have had no issues going back/forth. This should be the same thing, I'm assuming?

I LOOOOOVVE my 9700. I used the 9000 for a long time and I loved the size, but the trackball was a hassle for me. It took a few days to get used to the smaller form factor, keyboard and trackpad...and I would never go back!

What he said. The adjustment to the smaller keyboard is a short-termed issue... and long-term, it's a great move. I love the 9700 - keyboard AND trackpad... and the higher-res screen...

Put the camera of the 9700 in the 9000 and you have the perfect blackberry. That's the main reason I upgraded mine (plus AT&T gave it to me for 1 cent)

I changed from 9000 to 9700 about 3 weeks ago and still trying to get used to it. 9000 is a solid bb and easy for people with big hands.

i love the 9000

but i upgraded to the 9700 after changing the trackball on my 9000 twice.

the 9700 so superior in almost every way except i liked the size of the of the 9000 (easier to type)

im used to the 9700 now, you'll love the trackpad, the camera, and for me seems more solid than my 9000
