Default memory capacity: old vs new 9000

Please Login to Remove!

After OS upgrades and downgrades and other modifications my Bold seems to be dying, constantly getting white screen and reboots etc. I'm replacing it with brand new 9000. This may appear to be an ignorant question but I'm wondering if the device memory capacity lessens over time with use and modifications. That is, if I install the exact same programs to my new device and upgrade to the latest OS, can I assume there will be less memory issues etc. than with the replaced device?

No, capacity never changes.

That's not a fair assumption.
The 9700 has twice the device memory over the 9000. However, if you install crappy third-party apps that leak memory, then you'll likely have the same issues as you did with your 9000. It'll just take longer for you to notice a problem.

Sorry my bad. I'm replacing the 9000 with a new 9000 (waiting for the 9800 or a newer version of the original 9000 Bold, if that ever happens).

Then your assumption is even more unfair.

I tend to agree with penquin... I suspect you problems may be self inflicted. I'm thinking, in no particular order: aftermarket application problem, maybe a bad aftermarket theme, too little free memory, flakey microSD card, loose battery, water damage.

If you remove the microSD card, verify your battery is making good contact with the terminals on the device, and do a security wipe deleting third-party apps, how does it run? If it's good, start over adding your stuff back one at a time and determine what is causing the problem.

Am not sure "unfair" is the correct word. "Wrong" is more appropriate, no?

But, I have the same programs on my current device now that I had installed on it many months ago before the current problems developed. Thus the question I posed. Hopefully, there's a problem with the device itself, as opposed to memory, and replacement will fix the problems. But we'll see.

I did a security wipe; in fact a number of times. Soon thereafter, even before I reloaded all the third party apps, the problems reappeared. Worked with at&t and, per them, did some kind of "deep cleaning" using desktop manager, but no go.

Does it really matter?

No, you're correct here it doesn't matter; same basic point made. Your comments have always been helpful for me. But the word "unfair" through me off a little as to your meaning/intent. No big deal.

Anyway, as for my device's problem. Even when the heavier apps are removed, the device is messed up. For example, as I use the browser for a while, suddenly the screen will go all white. A battery pull will reboot, but then immediately the battery "appears" dead; can't start the device. Once I plug it in to recharge, it reboots again, and battery within a few minutes reads as close to full. Strange stuff.
