Default blackberry got slightly wet, screen doesn't work now.

Please Login to Remove!

the FML moment: so i'm in this skeevy chicago midway airport, and there is nowhere to sit my purse when i am using the bathroom mirror. i sit it on the edge of the sink, and accidentally knock it into the sink. well, the faucets are touchless, so it starts running. over the pocket where i had my phone.

the issue: the bb has a case on it. it didn't get too much water on it. it was working fine the moment after. i turned it off, then tried to turn it back on 15 minutes later. and the screen didn't light up (but i saw the t-mobile screen faintly). so now i'm stuck at the airport with no phone.

what is my best course of action? this is the second liquid damaged bb for me.. and i would really, really hate to have to get a new one..

Sounds like water did get in the device. Leaving the battery in, turning it on, that turns out to have been a bad choice.

You should remove the battery now, and let the device dry out. The damage may be done, but you should try. See the article at blackberryfaq.com about what to do when you get a blackberry wet.

When electronics is involved, slightly wet is almost as good as drenched.

Sounds like you will be in pain as a new one is most likely the only option at this point.

Update: Took the phone apart, put it in a container of uncooked rice, let it sit on top of the DirecTV box for 3 days............. and this phone pulled a Jesus and came back to life! Screen works, no water damage, good as new.

So to anyone reading this who has a dead BB, don't give up before trying the rice trick. Even if you turned the phone back on while it was wet. Don't listen to the naysayers! :P

Got Your BlackBerry Wet? - BlackBerryFAQ

That article is very helpful.

Kairi2, I am glad you were able to get your device working again. However, not everyone will have the same results. It is NEVER a good idea to put the battery back in the device after it's been wet. Always let it completely dry before putting the battery back in.

Excellent.

I imagine you beat the odds, kairi2.

Glad you have it working again.

And no insult intended, but stay away from water.
I replaced 5 phones last year for my wife for the same reasons.
It's also why she doesn't have a blackberry.
