Angry BlackBerry Experts: Trying to Update to .76 OS What Am I Doing Wrong!

Please Login to Remove!

I downloaded the .exe file from Crackberry link that was posted on a few other threads and it was downloaded fine. Here's what I did.

1. removed my .75 OS entirely via Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs
2. downloaded the .76 OS .exe file successfully
3. (Storm not connected to computer) installed the .76 OS
4. deleted the vendor.xml file and emptied recycle bin
5. pulled up Desktop Manager and it doesn't pop for an upgrade!

I of course backed up everything and did all the common sense stuff, but I can't seem to get .76 OS installed! The .75 OS was no problem at all.

What am I doing wrong!

Easy enough, simply disable your internet connection from your computer then plug your phone up with desktop manager. Dm gets online to check and make sure you have the correct version available for your phone. .76 is not the correct version for your phone.

This happen to me too and finally figured out, dont need to use desktop manager. (Though it does need to be installed)

Download and install the .76 OS to your PC. Then navigate to: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader and start the LOADER.EXE file. It will run you through a install where you can choose and install .76 OS. Let me know if this works for you.

Didn't work. :(

I tried uninstalling Desktop Manager, then reinstalling it the Custom way without the Automatic Update checked off or whatever as found in this thread:

http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...-xml-file.html

And then I tried doing a restart, searched for hidden files for vendor.xml and really thought I covered all the bases. The name of the .76 OS that I'm downloading is:

9530AMEA_PBr4.7.0_rel109_PL4.0.0.96_A4.7.0.76_Bell _Mobility.exe

That's the install program I keep thinking I must be doing something wrong here!

I did this exactly loaded the loader.exe file and it just listed my 3rd party applications and said no additional updates at this time.

Have you tried getting rid of the OS with JL_Cmder and then loading .76 on your device?

Is there a reason you want .76 over .75?

Whoa! If the OS won't upgrade with an OS already installed, it won't load if you wipe the device with JL_Cmder. If you wipe with JL_Cmder you will just have a dead device that you can't get an OS loaded to. I've seen this WAY too many times here lately.

Do you have desktop manager 7?

The way I did it.
Used JL_CMDR to wipe my BB
Hooked it up to the DM 7 and installed .75 fully
Installed .76 OS to PC
Then loaded loader.exe, connected BB via USB and it somehow finally found .76 and upgraded.

FINALLY WORKED AFTER DISCONNECTING MY DAMN INTERNET!

Thank you bwhite757! :D

Anyway the .76 OS is definitely worth the upgrade, much less buggy. Nothing tremendously faster I didn't use the camera really on .75 OS to see if there's a difference but the .76 OS camera I used a bit tonight and it wasn't sluggish at all. Took some of the best pictures I've ever seen!
