Start / Run / type CMD / this opens a command box /
Migrate to the directory that has JLcommander and run the .cmd file.
(you will need basic understanding of dos commands to find the utility and run it)
For example:
If your JLCommander program folder is in C:\JLCMDR you will need to run the .cmd file from there.

A lot of us here on the forum are not on Vista yet. Can you shed some light on this? Does it give you the same toolset at JLCommander?

Thx...

For me, doesn't run on Vista x64 -- Even in compatibility mode. I get a "this program not compatible with x64" error after passing JL_Cmder's startup screen.

I use JL in Vista x64 all the time.

When you install the program, you have to right click on the install file and choose "Run as Administrator", and install normally.

This will place an icon on your desktop as normal. Before running the program, right click on the desktop icon and choose properties. There will be an "Advanced" button to click on. Once inside that window, put a check mark in "Run as Administrator" and click ok. Click ok again and agree to any UAC (User Account Control) prompts.

Then right click again and choose properties again, and change the program path from:

%PROGRAMFILES%\JL_Cmder\JL_Cmder.cmd

to

"C:\Program Files (x86)\JL_Cmder\JL_Cmder.cmd"

Since you are using a 64bit OS, there is the regular Program Files that runs all your x64 programs, and Program Files (x86) that has all your 32bit applications.

Once you do the above it will work with out a hitch. It works flawlessly every time I upgrade my OS for my Pearl or Curve.

It didn't work on my computer running Vista Ultimate x64. I had to rename or delete the choice.com in the program folder so that it called the 'choice' command supplied by the system. Everything worked fine after that.

I just used mine to wipe and install the latest OS for my Pearl 8100.

You may have missed a step, as I use Ultimate x64 as well and it works without fail.

Just to be sure did you install with Administrative rights and check the advanced Administrative permissions box?

If so, it should have worked perfectly.

Are you installing it with Administrative permissions and running it with admin permissions?

If you do, it should run without a hitch.

Logged on PC with admin rights, downloaded zip jl_cmder file to a folder I named "JL_LDRfolder", then double clicked this downloaded zip file resulting in file that was an application file. I then went to the resulting desktop icon, right clicked, selected run as administrator from the drop down, then selected properties and change the target as you suggested above (see bold below) Note that is a radio button called advanced in the properties of the shortcut icon which I open and notice something regarding administrator that was unchecked and grayed out, I was not able to check that box. Remember that I signed on as admin.

%PROGRAMFILES%\JL_Cmder\JL_Cmder.cmd

to

"C:\Program Files (x86)\JL_Cmder\JL_Cmder.cmd"

This modification resulted in a invalid path. Aslso there is a box called "START IN" that had %PROGRAMFILES%\JL_Cmder in the field but since I got the invalid path statement this does not matter for now.
I searched for a directory called Program Files (x86) but it doesn' exit.

I suspect for now that your edition of Vista that is Ultimate creates this directoy and recognizes to download this type of file to this directory.

Just because you login with admin privs in Vista doesn't mean you have them. You must manually right click on the file and "Install as Administrator"

Only do this if you are using the 64 bit version of Windows Vista. If not, just leave the path as is.

No, it has to do with 32 bit vs 64 bit. You are using the 32bit version, and you really should not have any issues if you install it the way I told you above.

I don't know of any issues running it by default settings under your version of Windows Vista.
